I grew up in Gary in the 1960's, and I loved my Hometown. Life was good back then. My Dad worked at US Steel. He retired in the 1990's after 40 years of working there. I lived in the Glen Park section. I attended Franklin Elementary School. If we wouldn't have moved, I would have attended Lew Wallace High School. Glen Park is located where Broadway and Ridge Road intersect. 👉"The Steel City Storm Channel" here on KZread, is all about Gary, Indiana. Memories from those of us who grew up in Gary, from Gary's thriving Glory Days to the City as it sits today. The comments under Storm's videos, from former citizens up to and including the present day citizens, can give you a "living history" of sorts if any of you are interested in Gary. The videos and comments are better than interesting!! They are fascinating. Gary truly is a dichotomy. The stories from the citizens, take you from one extreme to another. If you would like to see and learn more about our Hometown, The Steel City Storm Channel is an excellent place to start. Please be careful.

I grew up in Brunswick. Same time period. Witnessed the urban decay as the demographic shifted (that is as politely as I can phrase it). Often went to Glenn Park. Loved the town through the mid-60’s, it rapidly declined thereafter.

It would be neat if the auditorium was turned into a movie theater/concert hall, and the rest of the buildings turned into apartments or a hotel.
