Exploring the Ksars (Castles) outside of Timimoun, Algeria

Outside Timimoun or تيميمون lies a series of Ksars or Castles built into the stone hills that are still occupied today. Many years ago, Saharan people would create these ksars as places to hide and defend themselves against Saharan enemies. They could see an enemy from a distance with a high vantage point and retreat to their castle to protect their people and food from the intruders. They could also signal other nearby castles of the danger. These places are truly amazing and yet totally open to explore. In many countries, they would be museums, but in Algeria everything is open for you to see first hand.

This is stolen Moroccan 🇲🇦 land given by France after they left Algeria and killed over 5 million Algerians. The eastern sahara belongs to the kingdom of Morocco historically. You can ask the people living there they will tell you everything about it.
