Exploring The Elizabeth Line (part 1) - the story of London's newest underground railway

Tip me on: ko-fi.com/exploringlondon
It’s time to explore the story behind The Elizabeth Line, as we check out every one of the new central core stations that have just opened. The archeological finds, the political wrangling, the triumphs and the failures, what’s still unfinished and what was never meant to be. In part 1 we cover Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street. But also Moorgate and Barbican.
I initially made the whole video and it was 27 minutes long and my friend Justin implied that was outrageous so now it's split, hence the lack of conclusion. Part 2 to follow shortly.

    Dude I look forward to your content like a child looks for sugar, and on the sweet note: that Smarties analogy was the best/worst visualisation in all the right/wrong ways. Keep on keeping on my friend and make videos on places that you truly find interesting otherwise why even do it... I feel honoured to have found you early, there's big things to happen to your channel imo. The passion in this is so clear and I have not even watched the second part yet, which I am looking forward to:) Thank you for doing what you do!

    The Barbican Centre's theatre would beside the Metropolitan line, and not above the Metropolitan line as was said in the video. As the stage is below ground level, and the Metropolitan line is a cut and cover railway, which means it is not too deep below ground. I want to a concert in the Barbican Centre once, and I remember having to go down stairs, to get to my seat on the lower level of the theatre. After entering the building from street level. Also I am surprise that Geoff Marshall has not made the joke of calling the Elizabeth Line, Elizabeth LIne line, like he did for Battersea Power Station.

    6:30 And the answer is.... London RER ! Frankly, it's what it resembles the most : not exactly Tube, not Overground, not usual commuter but a lot like Paris RER (except for the single level trains) with giant stations that connect several Tube stations ( 13:00 has a strong whiff of Auber / Saint-Lazare / Opera / etc. underground complex' insanity). By the way, what map is displayed at 12:28 ? I'm fond of "real path" and volumetric maps so I spent some time caressing this moment in the video. Do you have any source link or info so that I can save this beauty and possibly others of the kind ? Thanks a lot and kudos for the wonderful video ! So excited to try the new Elizabeth line ! We're at the beginning of a transport extravaganza decade in Western Europe with London, Paris, Barcelona, etc. transit expansions : an urban rail nerd's heaven !

  • @LightbulbTedbear2
    @LightbulbTedbear22 жыл бұрын

    I think TfL needs to put less emphasis on the different branding between modes. The Elizabeth line is, for all intents and purposes, a tube line. Once there's a whole network of Crossrail-style lines, it would make sense to differentiate them, but while there's only one, it should just be on the map as another tube line.
