    The second tunnel entrance at Box Tunnel East runs into Tunnel Quarry, and was originally used for stone, then ammunition's. It had no connection to Burlington/Site 3. I've done a site survey of Box tunnel, have many photos of the tunnel inside, under an engineering possession. There are a few railway side rooms, and evidence of the subway tunnel connecting Tunnel and Spring Quarries.

    Brilliant vid. Thank you. Wish you'd had access to GE when you began all this eh! 1.04 is the GOSCC, JCUC, CSOC, and various ISS assets. I have always wondered what use is still made of the facilities beneath as it sits directly above. The White oblong building behind it is of interest too, the UKNDA. 3.23 the CDCN, you know of course that is no longer its name, though would be interesting to see how it connects to Browns Quarry below and if that part is still in use. I used to follow your early research in the mid 90's Mathew so appreciate the effort that you're still putting in now.

    I live near Cosham and grew up knowing about the mines and tunnels. I know people from MOD who said they are highly secure and used for storage - one very close by is used for a massive underground wine warehouse. Corsham tunnels are dangerous too and public use is not advisable. But if you're expecting an underground city or science fiction doomsday bunkers lime in Fallout 4 you'll be disappointed. 😕

  • @alexstephen5695

    @alexstephen5695

    4 жыл бұрын

    Well you are wrong. Monkton Farleigh is used for storage. Tunnel quarry and spring quarry are partly used for computer security as new mod installations. The old Burlington bunker is still there and still has machinery, furniture kitchens etc that are amazing to see. If you grew up around there I'm surprised you don't know more about it. 😂 Also all the Bunker tunnels in spring and tunnel are perfectly safe. Wasn't that long ago sse were working in there for the electrification and I've seen in there since.

    It must have cost billions to build this bunker and billions more to build all the other ones around the country. I recently watched an old early 80s BBC Panorama film on KZread about the UK's nuclear war preparations. They interviewed Maggie's civil defense minister and he said they spend 22 million pounds a year on civil defense for the general population. Sounds like a lot, but not when we contrast that with what they spent on saving the Toffs and their hangers on. Typical. That 22 million was probably mostly spent on stuff like Protect And Survive videos telling us commoners how to crawl under a mattress and kiss our arses goodbye. Meanwhile the upper crust gets fully stocked cities underground perhaps hoping to repopulate the world with their supposed better breeding if it came down to it. Bastards. I grew up in Milton Keynes in the 80s, but live in NZ now. I remember in 1983 something big was going on that had us all talking at school. American warplanes were screaming around in huge numbers much more than we had ever seen. We wondered what was going on and if it was all about to kick off. We knew those US bases were prime targets for nukes. Kids actually discussing at school where the nearest targets were and if we would live or not. Great fun. Better than playing conkers even.

    Look around London, Bath and many places in between and elsewhere - all with buildings made from highly prized, honey-coloured, Bath stone. These quarries are where it all came from - so it had already been dug, over centuries. That's why there are so many - and why they don't all interconnect.
