Both Apodaca and Martinez had been members of the Jehovah's Witnesses congregation but were "no longer welcome," according to police. Officials say Apodaca had expressed interest to a member of the congregation to return to the congregation the night before the attack.

So sad.... Remember in 1998, after one of my Long time elders passed, his wife called their DF'd son, just to inform him "Well, I just wanted to let you know that your father died last night, and 2nd... I don't want to catch you at the funeral" Like, what kind of sick people act like this

The only time I received a phone call from my youngest brother, who is an elder, was to tell me someone was very sick or had died. When texting became available I received text rather than phone calls. I got the one text with no follow up. I finally made peace with it and blocked him from texting me. I also have a JW cousin who would call me every few months, it was like she was taking an inventory of what was going on in my life and share nothing about her or her family. I allowed her and my brother to dictate the terms of how much of a relationship I was allowed to have with them....I finally took a stand and cut off the far and few phone calls and text. I'm 57 and have put up with their BS since I was a kid. DONE!

When I left I thought I was going to die at Armageddon so I just lived the best I could. I married and had two daughters. I raised them to be the best that they could be. I also raised them to believe what they wanted. It wasn’t until I woke up 2016 that I realized I did the right thing. I am a Christian and I know God led me out. I asked God to lead me where I needed to be and it wasn’t to the Watchtower.

I got DF because my ex husband beat me and I got a divorce. I had told the Elders repeatedly what was happening and they told me that I needed to be a more obedient wife. I was a regular pioneer. So after my divorce I was reproved then moved away out of state. A year later started dating a guy in the congregation. We end up getting engaged and then married. 3 months later Elders called my hubby in a room before Theocratic Ministry meeting. He comes out and says let's go . They told him my divorce was never on the grounds of adultery so he needed to leave me. I told him if that was what he wanted I totally understand. He said forget them if they think a woman should be single the rest of her life because of abuse they are living by the letter of thr law instead of by the spirit of the law. So they never talked to me. The next week, they got up and made the announcement that we were DF they used my other married name. My mil called and told us she can't talk to us anymore and we are no longer welcome there. Well a few months go by and she starts sneaking over because she couldn't handle it. She hated the society does that. When her husband died and her sisters and other family came out she wanted me and my hubby there too we told family watch no one will talk to us. We asked Mormon Missionaries to go there with us and they did and we told them watch no one will talk to us and sure enough JW shook everyone's hands nice to meet you to everyone got to us walked right past us and then continued back with the nice to meet you again. Her sisters said this is absolutely why they would never be a JW they tear families apart. I was so distraught by the instant cutting off. They make an announcement but no one knows circumstances they blindly follow. If they knew the stupid reasons for some of the DF they probably would reconsider being a JW.

Thank You very much for making this video. You know I'm not even disfellowshipped nor am I Disassociated. I just simply walked away. Yes I'm baptized, but I haven'g done anything to be disfellowshipped. Yet my whole family is shunning me. So you don't have to be any of the above to be shunned. Just fade out and watch the shunning begin. You don't even have to be baptized these days to be shunned. If you're going to the meetings, but am not do "everything" the organization expects of you, the friends in the congregation will start soft shunning you. It's a wicked cult. I can't call it a religion anymore. David Gnam the Canadian Lawyer for the Canadian Branch saying, "Family relationships continue just not in a spiritual way." Well heck we all know that a JW's life is nothing but the spiritual aspect of the cult. You can't sit at a table for a nice family meal without talking about the "Truth". No this is dangerous and I hope this tragic news reaches many across the world and the governments need to be aware of what damage is done in this cult. It needs to change it's policies or cease to exist. Thanks again and great to see your smiling faces again.

The Bible commands Christians: “Quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man.”-1 Corinthians 5:11. Is this Bible law harsh and demeaning? Just consider this: When a hardened criminal is sent to prison for breaking the law, is that viewed as harsh or coldhearted? No, because the public has the right to safeguard the peace and security of the community. In effect, the criminal is disfellowshipped from law-abiding society during his prison term. Similarly, the Christian congregation is justified in expelling unrepentant wrongdoers from their midst. Why? Because the congregation must be a haven from immoral predators and other willful practicers of sin. Realizing that “one sinner can destroy much good,” the apostle Paul commanded fellow believers: “Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.” (Ecclesiastes 9:18; 1 Corinthians 5:13) This action prevents the sinner from spreading corruption in the congregation, and it protects the congregation’s good name.-Compare 1 Timothy 3:15.

Thank you Lady Cee and JT for addressing the Colorado suicide tragedy. I experienced marking and soft shunning back in the early 80's. Why❓ Depression, and I stopped going out in field service. It seemed almost suddenly, that no one was available to even go out for a cup of coffee. One sister said to me, "I don't know why you even bother coming to the meetings, all you do is cry". A brother, one of my friends, showed me scriptures, and told me, "Jehovah's people are happy people". It was probably one of the darkest times in my life. I was naive and didn't fully realize the depth of control this Organization had on its members. I felt so alone and empty. I was encouraged by a friend from another congregation to attend her hall. When a brother expressed interest in me, a brother/ friend told him that I was marked in the previous congregation... The brother that showed interest in me is now my wonderful husband of 40 years. We left the organization in 1982. The best decision ever‼️ What I learned about this organization is, if it can't control you, it tries to destroy the very person that you are... Thank you both so much for all you do...🌺🌷🌸

Hi JT & Lady Cee, thank you so much for this very important video. My husband and I have been out for 1 year. First thing we did was to go to a Psychiatrist together. He was very aware of the suicide with in the Jehovah’s Witness organization. We are being shunned by our 4 adult children. We are currently raising awareness about shunning, depression and suicide. We hosted a segment on the Six Screens of the Watchtower called “Suicide in the Watchtower”. We will be doing a Part 2 to that because of all the ones that called in with experiences of suicide. We’d like to use the information that you linked. Thank you so much for the awareness you are creating in the Ex Jew community.

In my congregation when I was a child, there was a woman who was disfellowshipped. In my little heart I felt sad for her and knew this was a cruel act as she was not allowed to talk to anyone but her parents and had to sit at the back of the hall. I left at the age of 18 and never looked back. Still have some siblings who are shunning me after 45 years. Life does go on but the childhood bond never goes away in my heart for them. It is unnatural not to want to be with a loved one.

I want to thank you JT and Lady Cee so much for this video because shunning hurts more than some will ever know. I remember the days of thoughts of even to the point of suicide. I just talk to an active JW who has to secretly talk with her daughter who's disfellowshipped with Multiple Sclerosis. The part that hit me is when she said she prays for forgiveness for communicating with her disfellowship daughter. I was even more shocked when she stated there are elders in her congregation who still communicate with their disfellowship relatives. My family shunned me for 10 years which caused them to not get in contact with me recently to tell me my father was dying(he died just this past September) Shunning is really a control and bullying way in this religion when you think about it! Keep the videos coming. Happy New Year 2023

Thank you for sharing the information in this video. I will keep those who are being shunned in my prayers as I know He can help them; however, they need to find a good therapist that deals with trauma of coming out of a cult such as this one. I pray for their family members that they wake up and see what this organization has done to their family by insisting on shunning their disfellowshipped family members. This is an awful practice and there is nothing loving about it. We are to love one another even if we disagree with them for this is how the world will know that we follow Jesus.

Why? Because the congregation must be a haven from immoral predators and other willful practices of sin.

The only true Theocracy, the Watchtower, is actually a Satanic Cult using psuedo love and light as their front image. Fracturing personas is part of being a good Satanist. Shunning ( a form of passive gaslighting ), narcissism and pedophile are some of those tools. Fighting them with powerful Magick is the only thing that will break that organization. And we all know - Jehovah condemns the use of Magick in the bible - because it does have a hidden power to those that know how to master it. Nimrod / Osiris the "Dead and Rising God" and writer of many magickal texts, was not "a mighty hunter in opposition to Jehovah" for no good reason. She called her daughter on the phone and told her to go home and study her watchtower if we weren’t going to go out in field service. So instead of allowing her to be around people, she made her go do more watchtower stuff.

In fact it got worse when I was a pioneer. My anxiety was so high I once went to the hospital thinking I'm sick cause my body was sore but the doctor after running all sorts of test said nothing is wrong with you physically but here In your head ,what is troubling you.? I realized it was the ongoing strife I had with an elders wife who was convinced I wanted her man. Long story short, I've always made friends in school, because I've never made true friends in the kingdom hall. In my opinion, they were gossipers and backstabbers. At the age of 17, I was able to leave this cult, but at a huge cost. By dad had shunned me from 17 thru the age of 35. My mom is a MIFO (Mentally In Physically Out) so I always had her support. After I married a non-JW my dad had realized who his true friends were... I only have a good 4 adult years with my dad. The cult had stolen the remaining years with my father, before he had passed away with Alzheimer's with dementia.

The other really sad part of JWs is when a family member has mental Illness. I have seen at least two people in my family that had severe mental problems. One had asbergers syndrome- my little brother who committed suicide . The other was my cousin who had been diagnosed with a dilusional disorder aka schizophrenia. My brother never was babtized but his mind was so broken from the strict teachings of JW and the lack of love shown to him from the congregation. My cousin was babtized as a young adolescent before he started to show his mental illness. As it became apparent that he was not right as he aged he ended up disfellowshiped . After that he declined to the point of being put in a mental institution. His mother never once has even tried to see him in all these years . She shunned him and never again spoke to him. How heartless do you have to be to even have factual evidence that he is mentally ill, to not even try to communicate with your own flesh and blood.

@@allfalldown6812 Apostates like you claim to worship Jehovah and to believe the Bible, but you reject the visible part of his organization. Some even return to the God-dishonoring doctrines of “Babylon the Great,” the world empire of false religion. (Revelation 17:5; 2 Peter 2:19-22) Under divine inspiration, the Bible writers used strong words to expose the motives and the methods of apostates. What is it that apostates want? Most are not content to leave the faith that they once perhaps viewed as true. Often, they want to take others with them. Rather than going out and making their own disciples, many apostates seek to “draw away the disciples [that is, Christ’s disciples] after themselves.” (Acts 20:29, 30) Regarding false teachers, the apostle Paul sounded this urgent warning: “Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey.” (Colossians 2:8) Does that not describe what many apostates try to do? Like a kidnapper who carries an unsuspecting victim away from his family, you apostates prey upon trusting members of the congregation, seeking to carry them away from the flock. During this final part of the last days, it is to be expected that Satan will continue to launch an avalanche of lies and deceptions. Thankfully, Jehovah has not left us in the dark regarding Satan’s deceptive tactics. The Bible and the Bible-based publications of “the faithful and discreet slave” clearly expose the Devil’s evil methods. (Matthew 24:45) Being forewarned, we are forearmed.-2 Corinthians 2:11. (1 John 2:19) They went out from us, but they were not of our sort; for if they had been of our sort, they would have remained with us. But they went out so that it might be shown that not all are of our sort.

I recently made a video about shunning and in my preparation I looked up the publications that I studied before being baptised back in 1990. They were the "Paradise Earth" book and the "Worship the Only True God". There were only two sentences about disfellowshipping in the first book. That's all!! We were made to believe that disfellowshipping was very rare, was applied only to those unrepentantly committing gross and immoral wrongdoing, and almost always resulted in them returning to the congregation!! None of that is true! We most certainly did not have full disclosure about disfellowshipping, disassociation, and shunning, when we dedicated ourselves to the organisation. Unbelievably, the GB leadership saw it fitting to include that horrendous shunning video from the 2016 Convention in the new interactive Bible Study!!!! It's in chapter 57, I think. As I said, UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I was baptised in Bristol (UK) in 1990 (Feb). I remember those books and agree that I was certainly never warned that I would lose all my associates if I chose to leave, never mind committed a 'gross' sin etc. Those who remain must watch the videos and wonder about how much the 'spiritual 'food they are being force fed has been dumbed down. I would have cognitive dissonance as a result of the constant requests for money. I walked past two witnesses at their cart last week. Neither wanted to make eye contact with passersby and they looked bored and disinterested in having any conversation with potential 'studies'. I am interested to see the latest figures and how they are going to spin them. Most studies are with their own children and in countries where the internet has not made a massive difference yet. In a few years they are going to be entirely on line and no different from any other money grabbing evangelical outfit.

Yea I recently did a video too on why the Bible commands, Christians: “Quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortion, not even eating with such a man.”-1 Corinthians 5:11. Why? Because the congregation must be a haven from immoral predators and other willful practices of sin.

@Alex Shatner What a load of nonsense. How can you possibly compare those who are disfellowshipped, or who disassociate, to dangerous "hardened criminals "? Surely you must realize that you can be disfellowshipped , not only from the congregation, but from your family, for a whole raft of minor infractions, not mentioned in the scripture you quoted. In fact, most JWs shun solely on the say-so of the elder making the announcement at the kingdom hall, having no idea whasoever what wrongdiing they committed. How unfair! There is no opportunity to defend yourself before your friends and family. That alone is unscriptural, unjust, unloving and unchristian. Most jws I know haven't been disfellowshipped for those reasons either. In my case it was because I sought help from elders because I had been stumbled by the governing body, not because I was a dangerous contaminating influence on the congregation. What elders in the judicial committee most care about is whether you still believe that God is using the governing body as his sole channel. Show me that in the bible. It's not there.

@@richardgallagher650 Too bad you are not serving Jehovah, what a cheap excuse to not be a servant like at one time were, you should be more worried about your own salvation, and stop using this as a cheap excuse to leave Jehovah. Elders do not have control over what people do behind closed doors, and are not the police of the congregations . Victims have MOUTHS AND STRONG LUNGS, use them , SPEAK UP. It is against the law for elders to give legal advice, or take legal action against someone, or make calls to the police, Elders are not about to get involved in law suits by family members over sending someone to jail, also potentially exposing themselves to physical retaliations and death by non JW members, EXAMPLE:: "WHO CALLED THE POLICE ON MY UNCLE?" OH UH, AN ELDER FROM THE CONGRREGATION by the name of john doe" "Well he's going to have to deal with me now" people do not get padded down on entry to any Kingdom Hall for guns and, or any other sort of weapons. Victims, and or relatives have the responsibility to call the police, and should do that themselves. Just as, it's not the job of a Catholic priest or Baptists pastor to call the police when a gang member is in their church.

Thank you for covering this topic. I was the youngest elder at my ( then ) congratulation and we had a elders meeting at an assembly hall and the topic was basically about mental health in general. From there I learned that JWs didn't really take mental health seriously because a question was asked, "if someone with multiple personalities committed a unrepentant sin". Where one personality was repentant and one was not..the oversee-er answered : then both of them would be disfellowshipped, and the whole body erupted in laughter...now at the time one of my best friends in the congregation and in general actually had similar mental health issues so I was sensitive to the subject. Non the less, I never thought shunning anyone was ever a good idea, and I always spoke to everyone disfellowship or not...my mom was the same way.. now rather or not they spoke back because of fear THEY would get in " trouble " is a different story. Anyways, this is a tragic situation. And I'm praying for all parties affected by this tragedy..sounds like it could have been much worse. Sounds like he was trying to take out the whole congregation

How weak are your beliefs if you're commanded to avoid and shun people who challenge them? Beyond this practice being cruel, it's cowardly and a clear sign that the beliefs the Watchtower expose are as brittle as rice paper - incapable of surviving any scrutiny.
