Exploring the Cleveland Centre Archive. Slide Show with Jingles. Part 1 - 'It's worth looking into'.

In this video I take a look at the Cleveland Centre Archive Room (with permissions) to see what historic items of interest can be found.
During a brief prior visit, I noticed several boxes containing old photographs and various promotional materials from days gone by so I arranged a follow up to allow access to these items.
Armed with a friend, an old boombox, some cameras, a flask of tea and a multipack of Cadbury Twirls, we set about digging out the images to allow them to be copied and shared.
This video is part one of several videos that will result from this visit.
Thanks must go to Craig Weatherall and the Security Team at Praxis whom without, this video (and those that follow) would not have been possible.
Thanks also to my good friend James at James Stubbs Photography who's expertise and equipment resulted in some fantastic images!

I hope you enjoy the video.

I remember what it was like before the CC was constructed, with some interesting old shops. The Record Shop, which moved into the CC, on the ground floor under the Erimus pub, used to be down one of the side streets quite near Jack Hatfields but on the opposite side of the road. On Linthorpe Road there was a small old fashioned sweet shop etc. I used the CC quite a lot, mainly WH Smith and Boots. I used to use the original WH Smith when it was down Linthorpe Road, towards the station, quite near but opposite M&S, and bought my first single,e and LP from their record section on the first floor in about 1966. Before the CC was built there was also a place down a side street which had a huge Scalelectrix type track where you could bring a car and race about four or six others.

So lovely to see and hear these old hidden gems that would otherwise be lost to history. Looking forward to the follow-up videos.

Thanks Steve. I went for the photos but the old jingles were an unexpected bonus. I've quite a few more that I'll share in my follow up videos.

I remember the doctors in the cleveland centre. You had to go up in the lift near W.H.Smiths. to the first floor. Afterwards my mam would take me to Sarah's for a bite to eat.

It's funny you should say that as I too knew there was a sports shop on that corner (where Costa is now). I couldn't remember the name of it though so I too was chuffed when I found a picture of it. I don't know if you'll recall but it had an upstairs and you accessed it via a spiral staircase in the centre of the unit (sadly gone). The space is still there but it's just storage now. Be sure to stay tuned for part 2. Thanks for watching.

@kadechilds201 just thought I'd let you know that I paid a second visit to the Cleveland Centre archive last week and during my time there I did a little digging in regards to 'Dixon Sports'. I came across what was the upstairs of the unit and the space where the spiral staircase came through the floor can be seen (although it's now filled in with concrete). The side loading door still has the Dixon Sports Logo on it the entire length of the door!
