Exploring the Bass Mandolin on Exhibit at the Museum of Making Music

The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California and its Manager of Artifacts and Exhibitions, Jonathan Piper, provides a behind the scenes look at an exciting artifact, a 1912 Gibson Mando Bass Mandolin, the largest and lowest of all the mandolins. Jonathan provides a demonstration of how the Mando Bass stays upright as well as describes the evolution of the Mando Bass.

    I've never yet seen a Leland, but I do own what is possibly the only Lyon & Healy Mandobass in the world -- and it sounds 100x better than my 1927 Gibson.
