Here is a bit of a different however interesting video, I've recently been getting into history stuff and this was something I always wanted to do. Enjoy!

Fun Fact: Even after the discontinuation of the NSL in 1963, the CNW still used these tracks for freight service until 1995 when the CNW merged with UP and by 2004-2005 most of the tracks were ripped out which leads us to today.

Thanks for bringing this up, since making the video I have found out about the C&NW Skokie subdivision. I'm working on a video about all the info I could dig up right now. Have a good one!

@@chicagolandrailroader I hope passenger service on the Former Skokie Valley can be restored whether it be by CTA or Metra that restores this.

I used to work for the Chicago & North Western Railway as an ultrasound rail test car operator back in the 1980s. Consequently, on occasion I tested these rails here for any defects or breaks as the C&NW would run heavy coal trains on this trackage. I recall it being 100-pound rail (10025-28). Some of the rail joint bond wires remained from the North Shore days which was a larger gauge no doubt to transmit the 600 volts from the overhead wire to ground. Also, at least back as late as 1989, if you looked under the bridge of the Edens Expressway where it crossed these tracks you could see two pan like structures that apparently were used to support the North Shore's overhead wire. Nice video of what remains of this former CNS&M and C&NW trackage. Thanks for sharing!

Look at what has happen to passenger train service. It is sad. The lost of the NorthShore line is still being felt 60 years later. Thank goodness the SouthShore line is still rolling and being improve.

If the North Shore Line only had the funding the South Shore Line has gotten it would be still running today and would look very much like the South Shore Line with single level cars like the South Shore's and would sound exactly the same.

Unfortunantly the Mayor of Chicago during the demise of the North Shore line was Richard Daley who was pro-automobile politician... F**k Richard Daley

I am definitely not an expert on the topic! But you should check the Illinois railway museum's historical archives, they are available online.
