Exploring the Abandoned Gary Screw and Bolt Company (Massive Industrial Warehouses)

Ойын-сауық

Exploring the Gary Screw and Bolt Company, a massive industrial complex which made bolts, screws, and rivets, most notably for the efforts in WWII. Hundreds upon hundreds of articles of clothing remain inside as the next company that took over the property was shut down and the owners charged for fraud. The clothes were to be donated, but sit inside instead, abandoned like the rest of the factory.

Cool! Those fountain things were hand-wash basins. In places where you really got your hands dirty, you'd go up to one, press your foot down on a tube around the basin at the floor, and that would get the water flowing eliminating touching anything until your hands were clean. I think of all the workers that toiled long hours there just to pay the rent.

I amazed it is still standing after closing in 1986. All of factories have been torn down., where I am from in Lake county Illinois. Those are old sinks, common to factories, and industrial arts in high school.

@8:44, those “fountains” were washing stations, where the workers would scrub and wash their hands, I’m a old fartJR, I remember using them, you used your feet to turn the water on, and the soap dispenser was in the middle, you used a lever to distribute the powder soap to scrub your filthy hands of all the grime. Yeah, memories…

I know it goes against the "code", but you probably could have acquired a few nice shirts from those massive piles of clothes. Just have to go in a few layers to find stuff that's not all moldy, wet, etc. Oh yeah, "Screw and Bolt"...giggles like a 13 year old boy

After nearly 20 years of sitting in there, I'm not sure anything in those piles would be in very "wearable" condition 😅

I hadn't really thought of that, it would definitely take an extremely dedicated homeless guy to check I suppose, assuming there'd be any dollar bills still in recognizable shape after nearly 20 years deteriorating in there 😂
