    I was just thinking about you and here you pop up today. A small piece of my wall panel shook loose and as I stared at the thinsulate in the cavity of the wall panel and saw the exposed metal, I wondered if the lizard skin you used in your build would’ve helped with the temp. It was 118 inside the van! I know insulation continues to be highly debated but if I were to do another build I would definitely include lizard skin. I really enjoyed the travelogue of your trip. Great drone footage too. The scenery was so pretty I even slowed the speed down to enjoy it longer. Oh and for my rear shower I use 2 magnetic hooks on each door, 1 closest to the van entry and the other on the door opening side. I sewed 2 standard shower curtains together and they fit the opening. I placed washers in the hems of the curtains to weigh them down to prevent the wind from lifting the curtains. Happy safe travels always.

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    Thanks for the kind feedback on the video. :) The Lizard Skin is just one piece of an insulation system, and it definitely helps. That said the Thinsulate you already have is fantastic as well. Thanks for the tips on the shower curtain. Now I have a little better idea how to carry it out.

    You've been a great inspiration to me - both in your design and informative build approaches. I am kicking off a Promaster van build that will incorporate ideas modeled after your galley build and electrical design. Now that you are using the van more and more, any other rework ideas (besides the shower curtain) that you are finding? Would also be interested in knowing where those great spots are and how you find them. Any suggested travel planning tools? Congratulations!! Well done in all aspects!!

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    Thank you, much appreciated! Honestly the van just works so well for us. From the platform itself to the build, it really is a dream come true. The only thing I might re-think is the sliding cabinet doors in the rear of the van. There's always something inside the cabinet that shifts and makes it so I can't open the cabinet. Minor annoyance but something to point out. As for locating spots, I usually just look for public lands near where I want to stay. Sometimes you get lucky and find epic spots, sometimes you're just in a field. I'd take any of those over a crowded RV park any day. Thanks for the kind words and hope to see you around.

    ourkaravan maybe one of the atvs was me or my 7yr old on his 90cc. You can rent them down at the base, but having your own and then venturing out from camp is the best. If I was there with my boy, my ebike would have been tons of fun out there. I was on that same stream right at the low water crossing by the bathrooms.

    Hi I was wondering if you fixed the 80/20 Aluminium direct to the steel of the van & do you get condensation on the Aluminium. Kind regards Paul

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Paul, no condensation. I used various forms of thermal isolation. For my galley I bolted it direct to the van wall but have closed cell foam between the van steel and the 80/20. For the rear cabinetry I stepped it up and have fiberglass between the mounting rail and the 80/20. For my overheads I used fiberglass angles to thermally isolate. Honestly all three methods seem to perform about the same. You can check the van build section of ourkaravan.com for more details. Thanks for watching!

    I actually didn't air down on this trip at all. The build is to the point where I have the rattles under control, so I don't find it quite as necessary. That said, you can be sure I'll air down if I'll be doing a lot of washboard. Washboard in a van is particularly horrible. I'm thinking 25 psi for something so heavy?

    When they are younger I planned a lot more stops-parks, cool bridges to walk over-I would simply find something every couple of hours to break up the drive (and often combine it with a lunch stop) to keep it fun. Even though my daughter is 8 now I still don’t like to spend more than 6 hours driving in a single day. Last year I started allowing limited iPad use for watching movies to help.
