West Village most definitely. As a first time visitor just be prepared to get lost but let it happen anyway. There's no "dangerous" area of the West Village. The townhouses, the shops & little restaurants & cafes are spectacular.

The guy is right it’s only a name little Italy no way is it like the Real Italy, but interesting, China town has a more feel of China, thanks for the tour 👍👍👍

Chinatown is way larger than you think. You ended at Canal St which is the main strip. You could have kept going south & there still would have been more. Little Italy is way smaller than most think. There are maybe 4 viable blocks of Little Italy left as it's slowly being taken over by Chinatown. That's why you saw so many tourism shops in Little Italy. They're doing what they can to survive. If you want some of the best Italian pastry in an old world type shop try the historic Veneiro's in the East Village. Best cannoli in the city.
