EXPLORING OSLO | My first time in Norway

When I travelled to Europe earlier this year, I absolutely knew that I had to go to Norway. I had been watching vlogs from Norway and Sweden and I just had to see at least some of these places for myself (I'll go to Sweden next time!).
I loved strolling through the streets of Oslo! And I hope that you enjoy my first Norwegian vlog...

Glad you enjoyed it here :) Oslo is ever-evolving, always trying out new stuff and people are quite open about new things. Assuming it's for the benefit of the public, of course. The newest projects will be done near Munkegata and Gamlebyen, I believe. On a sunny day, you should maybe visit Sørenga and go for a swim, or you can even hike into the metric ton of lighted forest paths (winter and summer) we have. If you like exploring suburbs, Ekeberg is a _huge_ open area, where the world's largest football cup (for youths) is held each year, and not far away is one of the most (at least was) expensive streets in the whole nation at Bekkelaget (Solveien I think? Bekkelagsterrassen is also similar). It's mostly about the view. The streets themselves are cozy. But it's asphalt of course. Mathallen may be interesting to eat at, and if you have friends to go do stuff with you can grill in one of the central parks, or you can even go play games at several various pubs/foodplaces/game houses. If you have an interest, just google it + "Oslo" and you'll probably find it :) The best city-centre stroll is along Akerselva (the river). Blå is a popular destination (often live concerts), Syng on the other side has karaoke, and there's cool artsy streets and galleries nearby. There's much much more to discover. It's a big enough city to have a little bit of everything, and small enough to not have too much of everything. There's apps and pages dedicated to a well developed public transport network. Ruter is the official name, Reiseplanlegger for the route planner (it's not perfect [speaking as a local lol] but it can't get much better as an automated tool.)

I wish you a great trip i Norway 🇳🇴 😊 I am sure you will have a good time. It's interesting the thing you brought up with the pollution and pain in the throat. I felt the same when I was in Paris and Barcelona. I am sure that Norwegians are a little more sensitive to this then others since its pretty rare to smell exhaust in Oslo and other bigger cities in Norway. Hope you feel better and get a detox here in Norway. Looking forward to follow your videos. 😊

Just remember that Oslo has nothing to do with the rest of Norway. Like Trondheim and Bergen, even Stavanger, the people who live there are often a mixture of old folks who grew up there, and younger people who have moved there from elsewhere, and most of the latter don't think too happy thoughts about wherever they left to get there! They want to be urban, and they will usually hide their roots. Oslo is a prime example of that! The people will probably all tell you about loving Munch's Scream painting, and other stuff we all learned in school. But people born in Oslo are mostly urbanites who know, and care, little about what the rest of the country looks like, or are doing. Not that I'd really want to myself (I live in the far north and I hate flying!), but go visit anywhere that is not urban if you want to find anything that is not Euro-flavored. 😀 I may tell about those people, but I don't really care myself. But it feels sad that people might encounter most of the natives of Oslo, Trondheim or Bergen (or even Stavanger...), and still believe they've ever had any encounter with non-urbanites in this country! The city folks want to be WITH you outside the Norwegian setup, so few will tell you anything you would actually want to know about life beyond what the folk sagas and fairy tales tells us about ancient life.

Well we had a heat wave not that long ago, so you missed all the good weather. But we have had drout and forest fires due to climate change, so we need all the rain we can get. Norwegian weather is famous for being unpredictable so always check the weekly and daily weather forecast, have an umbrella, tho it rains sideways, and always have an extra jacket, warm clothes and appropriate footwear. Especially if not in the bigger cities or urban areas. Btw be careful in Hausmannsgate by Gunerius, I used to live near by, and tho it never happened to me as I’m always aware of my surroundings and I’m not a tourist, be vary of pickpocketing. I’ve seen dumb tourists walking innocently and naively with their backpacks, not paying attention, then someone snuck up behind them and rob them of their money/cards etc. Same during rush hour especially on the subway or the bus. Keep any bags/purses or backpacks to the front so you can keep track and fight off any thieves with your hands. It’s not really a huge problem like in Spain, Italy etc, but during the heavy tourist season and were lots of people gather, better to be safe than sorry😝 Enjoy Oslo Norway😎 PS. Gunerius is also the area were the junkies hang. Near the tram/bus strop. Just be aware…

Summer solstice was not long ago, I was up in the mountains then fishing and hiking with some friends, we returned to our cars at 00:30 and it was bright outside. (As in, didn't have to use LED Lensers (head lamps) even though there's no artificial lights) So if you had gone a couple weeks earlier you wouldn't have to travel so far north :p But there's plenty other reasons to travel further North :) PS: North is horrible (gets progressively worse) during summer when it comes to insects, be prepared if outside the cities lol. Going North from Oslo, you will approach (and maybe visit) Lillehammer, the small town that hosted the 1994's Winter Olympic Games. It is 2 hours North from Oslo. In a brief visit to Lillehammer, I had the opportunity to have a look at the facilities which were set up for that event, and stroll along the main street where most of the local shops can be found. Oh! It has been great to admire Oslo in the rain! Gray sky plus green grass make a beautiful combination... Keep enjoying the trip, Helena! :-) Looking forward to discovering more about Norway, thanks to you

Now I remember... several years ago, I learnt that Norway means "way to the North". Literally. It makes sense, doesn't it? :-)

Then simplify... Start with small experiences you love, and focus from there. Thinking is usually unnecessary: save thinking for only special occasions when it adds something positive🤗
