Decided to take a look at some Okinawa diving videos for the first time since I left back in 1994. In 1.5 years my buddies and I logged over 350 dives each back then with $1 tank fills. We always had 3 tanks each in our dorm lockers on base. That reef looks just terrible. I have sooo many underwater pictures of the different dive sites but they all look so vibrant compared to the way that place looks now. What a shame. We always taught our students how important buoyancy control was and to stay off the reef but once they leave the class there is just no way to know how much reef each of them or I destroyed. Hawaii is the same here on Oahu. I've lived here now for 2 years and have no desire to dive. The reefs are dead. It is a shame but it was inevitable.

This video is from 2016. That year the bleaching was pretty bad but, I'm happy to say that the corals have fully recovered, and then some, over the next 2-3 years. Look at some of my later videos and you'll see. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGyDtrClgLSbkpc.html

DIYREEFER'S PARADISE I've seen this behavior quite often. I'm pretty sure the goatfish is just waiting for a morsel to be scared up.
