Yo White Viking brothers!!! You want to know who Odin is? I have a feeling somewhere in between 7th-9th century AD. The Norse religion & Christianity got mixed up with who He was possibly? Check this out! Esus is another name for Odin. The word Esus. Add a "J" that was later introduced into the Anglo Saxon English alphabet in the 17th century. What do you have when you add- "J" with Esus? ;) romecorruptedchristianity.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/esus-and-jesus-coincidence-the-trinity-of-esus/

I enjoyed this. One thing to understand about the Old Norse religion: The Old Norse religion is not one set religion with a basic set of morals, laws, or beliefs for that matter. We know a lot about Old Norse and yet we know very little as generally each Jarldom, Kingdom, etc had their own iteration of the religion with perhaps a slightly different story. This is because the Old Norse religion isnt based off of a book like Christianity. It is only stories and "fish tales" happen. The Sami people might have believed something differently from their neighbors whilst still believing in the same God's. They all stem from the Proto-Germanic "Old Norse" religion however.

@RealBallistic SMN Maybe if there was any reasonable evidence for the existence of those Gods then people might not consider it a myth. Yet people know these stories have changed throughout history. You have got a good case though, it's hypocritical! Many religions don't have any reasonable evidence. If they don't they should be considered a myth because truth is determined by evidence. Even if there is no such thing as absolute certainty, you only have what is most probable given the current evidence.

To be honest, Odin sounds like a pretty chill person. Most gods in mythologies (especially the greek ones) tend to be flawed but mostly brutal and cruel towards mortals and even between each other. Here not only Odin walks among mortals, but he even opens his door to one ice giant (loky) and asks him to be part of his family despite his reputation. Odin could be one of the most "good" gods around mythologies, hell he even was willing to sacrifice his eye for wisdom and knowledge. I'm sure there must be a few stories that say otherwise, but by comparison.... yeah odin is a pretty chill god.

Great job on your Odin synopsis, I have studied Norse mythology quite deeply. I believe you're a little off on Loki, however. A lesson that always followed Loki's stories are that no matter how badly you mess things up, it's in your power to fix things, as Loki always did, with the notable exception of his role in Baldr's death, after which he was chained basically forever with snake venom dripping in his eyes, with a loving wife trying to save him from it. Very good to teach what happens when your trickery becomes malicious and causes irreparable harm.

Those are practically non-existent on KZread but the interest is certainly there considering the most recent Conan games and movie and considering that there are ties between the Conan series and the Lovecraft series since the two authors behind those series were friends and were inspired by each other in writing their stories.

Something very interesting also about "Asgård" where the God's lived and "Ashem" where Asgård was is that in an old story called "Yngligasagan" by Snorre Sturlasson it seems they believe Ashem was in Asia, east of the Black Sea I believe from what I remember of the text. He also mentioned Asia Minor and that would indicate Turkey. So, maybe vikings, at least in Sweden, came, at least partially, from Asia. Obviously Germanic tribes were likely the biggest source.

The Sons of Odin are Týr, Heimdallr, Bragi, Þórr, Meili, Baldr, Höðr, Hermóðr, Víðarr, and Váli. The other names are untrustworthy.

The O in Hǫðr's name has a tail not a umlaught/diaeresis, nor should you fully believe Heimdallr and Týr are sons of Óðinn, as Snorri is not a great source for the Norse mythos' beliefs as he adds his own personal agenda to said beliefs, case in point, him saying that all of the Æsir are children of Óðinn, which is clearly false. Not to mention Hymir being stated to be the father of Týr in _Hymiskiviða._

Well, "evil" is just a matter of perspective. But in Norse mythology there is a lot of beasts. The Jotun are usually considered evil, but they are not really considered gods as they have nowhere near the same abilities of the Gods. There is a Jotun called Surtr, who reigns over Muspelheim and the fire Jotuns. There are others aswell, but he was the first one who came to mind.
