The Kakheti region is located in eastern Georgia. It is bordered by Kartli to the west, the Russian Federation (Dagestan) to the north, from which it is separated by the Caucasus Mountains, and Azerbaijan to the south. The region is famous for its wine production, with vineyards cultivated at an altitude of 250-800 meters above sea level. The climate in Kakheti varies from humid subtropical to continental.
Winemaking in Georgia is an ancient tradition that stretches back over 8,000 years. The country is considered a cradle of wine, and archaeological evidence suggests that some of the earliest wines in the world were produced here.
One of the things that makes Georgian wine unique is the way it is made. Traditionally, wines are fermented and aged in large, underground clay vessels called qvevri . These vessels can hold thousands of liters of wine and are said to impart a unique flavor and aroma to the wines.
