Exploring Indigenous Perspectives: Sky Hopinka's Cinematic Landscape

Sky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation/Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians) is an artist, poet, and recent MacArthur Fellowship “Genius Grant” awardee who works with film, video, photography, and text to center personal positions of Indigenous homeland and landscape. Hopinka’s work foregrounds designs of language as containers of culture expressed through personal, documentary, and non-fiction forms of media. For this year’s Annual Rajiv Vaidya Memorial Lecture, Hopinka shared his approach to filmmaking and ways of being in the world by screening and discussing four recent titles. The Rajiv Vaidya Memorial Lecture is an annual film program lecture and screening event made possible by the generous support of the Vaidya family.
