Exploring Erbil | Solo in IRAQI KURDISTAN
Getting off the beaten path is the way to go! What an INCREDIBLE place in the world! People thought I was crazy for going to Iraqi Kurdistan but what more can I say. I’m not left speechless often but Iraqi Kurdistan did just that. The hospitality and friendliness of the people here was absolutely amazing! Traveling solo here was a surreal experience that I will never forget! Enjoy the first of this two part series in Iraqi Kurdistan!
And for all those wondering. I felt safer here than I do in the United States!

I've been to Kurdistan before well it was work related but I took a trip there when i was able I went to Erbil and it was one of the best trips I went on
I spend 5 days in the same hotel last summer. Erbil is an amazing town and a magical place. Iraqi Kurdistan rocks. Greetings from Germany.

@@johnrimhong4287 Well I’ve been on an bike trip from Germany to Iran. I decided to ride my bike to Erbil (Kurdistan is definitely not for biking). But I was also amazed by the people. This was my first real ‚middle east experience‘. The hotel was OKish. The cheapest available from the better ones. The Arabic quarter where it was located was nice an I loved that Iskan Street was right around the corner. Yummy 🤤

@@DrewAddis hi again and there is a question. I remember you have been spoken with a male Kurdish student at Süleymaniye. And the student was saying that he do not like Iraq gov. I thought since in the end of 2022, Iraq president who is Kurdish man was elected. Why he is still complaining about Iraq gov even though Kurdish get president position ??? It looks like Kurdish taking leader position doesn’t mean always satisfied all Kurdish people.

@@Reina.M540The president of Iraq and Kurdistan are no different، they are very corrupt if our people are publicly killed they have no problem thieves do whatever evil they do . And kurdish people 31 handle this we still don't have any treatment We've even done a lot of protests، but they even kill people in the protests، and if you're a student in Kurdistan، once you finish college، you can't have your own job، you just go home only those who are rich can have their own jobs and people who are doctors and lawyers. As a someone from Erbil, Thank you for visiting, I guess. First of all, you butchered the park’s name 😂, that’s okay though. I like how you didn’t ignore our history and mentioned “Kurdistan” in the title and used the Kurdistan flag in thumbnail, we’ve had a long history of fighting for more rights and recognition so that’s a big sign of respect from you. btw Kurds are Iranians just like Persians, our language is very different from Arabs. Anyway, Erbil is pronounced like Are-beel, but we Kurds call it Hewlêr, which is a corrupted version of the name. If you plan on returning you should use the name Hewlêr more (pronounced like Hao-ler or How-ler) Also, you were not the only tourist, you were the only American tourist, we also have Arab tourists from South. That uncle at 13:43 said “Serçaw” means “On eye”, it’s a respectful Kurdish saying. I suggest you pronounce Iraq as E-raq not Eye-Iraq for my Arab brothers lol

Dear Drew, you’re not the only tourist. You are surrounded by Arab, Iranian and Asian tourists.
Welcome to Kurdistan ❤️
Erbil❤❤❤
Currently, the biggest opportunity for the Kurds to build a country is on the verge of war with Iran vs. Afghanistan. In this situation, if they secure Afghanistan's territory, declare the country, and strengthen the border with Iran, they can build a country sufficiently. We can do it the way Israel does it. It's a great opportunity

Or just passport? And what Airline go to Kurdistan? Are there people who speak English or Spanish at the airport so that help me?

Thank you! I would say you could do it for about $50 per day. Make sure to bring cash and they have exchange stations all over in the city. You can purchase a visa on arrival for $70. Very few people speak English but I had no trouble getting by.

Only cash I believe. I would recommend bringing at least $300-500USD in cash to get you through several days because almost no places take card.
Wicked people 90%
Recommend everyone to visit Kurdistan atleast once, there are very few places left in the world that show this kind of hospitality and kindnesses towards forginers and tourists nowadays. No one will try to force you in their shops or sell on to you stuff, in opposite as soon as they know you arent from there they will instead give you free stuff 😂Probably why other countries stole our lands that easily, just joking 😂 😂
