People need to understand that, just like in the United States, there are many indigenous tribes that still reside in Mexico, just as in the US. The Tarahumara (also known as Rarámuri) are known for their incredible endurance running and speed in Mexico. But they are NOT considered Mexican as they have their own culture and heritage. Depending on how you were raised in Mexico (whether you are ignorant or racist) you respect and admire these indigenous people who unfortunately, as is common in the US, have not always been respected by Mexican people or seen as inferior. I for one, having been born and raised in Mexico until my teenage years, have the utmost respect for these very proud people who like other tribes, maintain their languages and culture and bring forth amazing skills like, running, hunting and fishing (among many other intellectual skills like math).

wet timguavass They are technically Mexican but have their own people and culture; just like all indigenous peoples. This isn’t a tough concept to understand. Also, in Mexico, where it’s typical that the lighter your skin the higher up you are in society, indigenous people are seen as less and many have suffered and not had the same opportunities as other “Mexicans.” Again, this is well documented in Mexican history dude... read a book.

Also amazing for accessibility - the audio was not at all jarring and was clear enough for the auto transcription, images were relevant and the video editing was very smooth and gave lots of processing time. This was a really great watch :)

4:17 - I don't think Micah actually did much barefoot running. Throughout the book, he almost seemed to think Barefoot Ted was kind of crazy and even irresponsible for running barefoot. He did periodically run in sandals, though. Also, I don't think Tarahumara run barefoot much if ever. As I recall, when some were presented with Barefoot Ted's Luna brand sandals, they said they were too thin.

Dustin Heath - Canelo is a light-skinned mestizo. Most Mexican champions are mestizos: JC Chávez, Márquez, Sal Sánchez, Barrera, Morales, Ricardo López, even the Mexican-Americans De la Hoya, García, etc.
To the creator, thank you for this video. I read Born to Run and have a hard time visualizing things! This video was like an essay or article but with those images to bring it to life.
As I recall, when some were presented with Barefoot Ted's Luna brand sandals, they said they were too thin.

if I were a sports contractor i would have just found an evolutionary gold mine to the sport.
I can't imaging running barefoot in the desert. I find it difficult to even walk over rocky trails barefoot. The bottom of my foot would be one solid stone bruise.
My Grandpa on my dad's side is from Gallup Mexico. He past away 7 years ago, and he was pure Tarahumara.

The Tarahumara eat a lot of corn. The video shows rice which I think unknown to the indigenous tribes before the Spanish conquests in the 1600s. But hey correct me if I'm wrong...

A lot of indigenous people get their hands on rice now of days as it is cheap and filling. I'm sure they go to town and buy or trade for it. A lot of tribes also now buy vegetable oil as it's a convenient cheap way to cook. Not exactly healthy though :/
Those are my people strong runners

Proud to from Mexico.
Have not read the book, raramuri run for joy and spirit, they believe if you are good you will get a the message from rosari the mother it’s not the bare foot it is the contact with every step, like a child with its mother when feeding... they will not go out of their way to explain it, Bc it is such a simple truth that if riablo covers your eyes and ears, well to put it nicely your heart needs to open... I had the honor of serving in this wonder of the world... it’s one thing I took away and I am happy to share, mostly “life is just that simple”
