Exploring Castle Howard: The 10,000 Acre Home of Bridgerton | Houses with History
Ойын-сауық
House & Garden presents Houses with History from Castle Howard, home to Netflix’s hit series ‘Bridgerton’. Join interior designer Remy Renzullo as we tour Castle Howard, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and home to the Carlisle branch of the Howard family for over 300 years.
Remy takes us on a tour of the castle that is featured in popular TV shows - most notably as Clyvedon castle in Bridgerton - showing us private spaces usually unseen by the public, including the beautiful Temple of the Four Winds, as well as giving us his take on the spectacular 18th-century state rooms.

It's fun to watch Remy's accent starting off as English and them gradually as he relaxes drifts towards New Yorker.

I completely agree. I've seen so many videos of this spectacular residence, but never encountered such a bizarrely unique accent that seemingly is generally changing somewhat frequently. 😂

I''m with you on this one. I rarely ever read the comments on the internet, but I just had to know where this person came from because their accent absolutely confused me. Amazing house though and they've done an incredible job - strange accent and all - adding to its preservation for future generations.
This was Brideshead Revisited way before Bridgerton!! I am a Howard. This Castle was in my ancestral family history.
I love that the family dog Poppy is in a lot of scenes! She looks like such a happy pup, of course who wouldn't be happy to live in such an elegantly designed and decorated estate?
It must be surreal to work at such a place. The blue bedroom is fabulous! And I agree about the terracotta color. There is a reason so many dining rooms are painted red. Everyone looks good while they are eating, especially by candlelight! It was weird to see him casually walking down those halls, which I still think of as haunts of Lord and Lady Marchmain.
I find it so funny that the title mentions Bridgerton. People seem to have forgotten that the house was featured in Brideshead Revisited (PBS, 1981).
What caught my eye (and I adore the bedroom and especially the fabrics of the blue bedroom) was the small portrait of the little girl as we were treated to a glimpse of the many treasures in the attic. Such a sweet little portrait.
Beautiful home and beautiful decoration but interesting to hear Remy Renzullo’s over-the-top accent. He is an American from Connecticut. The affectation is comical.

Love Castle Howard. It is a sacred place for me as Bridehead Revisited was one of the most influential experiences of my teenage years-one of my first glimpses of a wide and more beautiful world. I took a pilgrimage in 2009- what a beautiful and happy day

I can still see Sebastian sauntering down those upper hallways to visit Nanny. And Charles and Julia sitting on the stairs when she breaks with him. Amazing to see the setting out of that context!
Remembering the adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited xxx
To call a castle a home brings it to another level, first off! Rich in culture and history.
I like the fabric on that bed. I wouldn’t change it.
Castle Howard is exquisitely beautiful in every way! Thank you for such a gorgeous video, and thank you also for showing us so many rooms that you do not get to see on the tour.
My eyes were completely lost in this absolute beauty that I can’t find the exact words to describe properly. But why do I feel a strong urge to thoroughly clean the interior and run a pressure washer on all the flooring of the exterior 😂 Thank you for showing this artful gem.
I love how the only mention of Brideshead came about when the Queen's bed made an appearance. Like, "Oh, yeah. This monumental piece of television happened to be filmed here. Moving on!" But in all seriousness, thank you, H&G for showcasing this magical property. Brideheads will always have pride of place in my heart. And please follow up with them. I would love to see how the restoration unfolds. Last note: Please change your hashtags! Add #brideshead. It's a classic. And required reading/viewing for everyone.
Glad that these castles are still standing.
That blew my mind, those bedrooms are exquisite, being there would be heavenly. Lucky man to have the privilege to dress this beauty.
I want to live in that last little building..I will pay rent or purchase it. I love it there
Castle Howard is one of my favorite homes. It is splendid. Thank you for sharing.♡

That sounds great! They used so many beautiful real life locations across England. I have done similar things for Pride and Prejudice (2005 and 1995), as well as Harry Potter (which actually used a very large number of gorgeous real life historic buildings). @@jamesrightasrain795 How about you "dial down" your stupidity? It is cultural appropriation, but I suppose that only works in one direction... so typical. The history of the house is the history of England; it is representative and it is a history of White people. Perhaps we should have a White man play Kunte Kinte... after all, it's just television, isn't it? 🤡

I thoroughly enjoyed this and the young designer working on the castle. He was lovely, low key and personable.

Was that pavilion used in Pride and Prejudice for the proposal scene, the one with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett?

Thank goodness the park gives one a place to decompress from the grandeur. I could adjust to it, though.

Wowww magnifique
It shows the enourmous wealth from the rich and at the same time how many poor people where struggling to survive , this paradox strikes me the most.
I could listen to this chap tour Castle Howard for several hours. Any chance he could do more?
Please do a time lapse video when decorating....thank you in advance ❤💐🌹 The china cabinet SMH ❤❤❤

Never heard of castle of Howard until now after finding out my ancestry I'm a descendant of them my great grand fathersx4 is John Howard and great uncles thomas howard and phillip howard ny great grandmother was Norfolk Virginia
I’ve been living in this house for the last 9 months, and honestly I’m sick to death of it. I literally live in 4 rooms, sometimes the attic space and nearest bathroom. I wouldn’t know if others had broken in and were living in other parts of the building! The heating doesn’t work and it gets VERY cold during the winter months. I usually order takeaway and have it delivered just so I don’t have to fire up the oven and so that the delivery driver can see my magnificent home! I work during the day, so Christ alone knows what goes on there whilst I’m away…
Unfortunately I found this video impossible to watch due to the decorators hideously fake accent.
Magnificent
SO much inspiration here! I wonder if the film editors might take a listen to the background and tone it down a bit? It's competing with Mr. Renzullo for attention.
stupendo
Love your dog! The blue bedroom is saved by the great rush matting. Excellent combination. I could kill a lot of time in this place with just me and my dogs.
Where is brideshead music?
Imagine venturing downstairs for a midnight snack in this place.
Sweet doggy!!
Is that duke’s palace from the bridgerton season 1
Lovely ❤
The family must have been extremely rich in the 18th century. How come? And how's that now?
I had to watch without the sound. Could not listen to the guy’s awful accent 😂
How do you feel at home in those huge spaces ? It's way too big. It also looks dusty and somewhat rundown.
Another, lesser known stately home, also located in Yorkshire - with thrice the length of the façade of Buckingham Palace, and what was once described by one author as possessing one of the most stunning, grandest of drawing rooms, libraries in England, as well as having been frequented by the likes of Royalty - and was subject to dispute whether or not it wasn't the real inspiration for Austen behind Pemberley - Wentworth Woodhouse - or the Buckingham Palace of the North - stands on it's own - with a mysterious charm and air to it - a diamond in the rough - just south of Castle Howard. Naturally it's incomparable to Castle Howard.
His accent is more dramatic than the house. What is going on here?

At 4:34 we see this man sit on the arm of a sofa with the heel of his shoe on the sofa side. I am peeved with how casually he deports himself around someone else's property. At 7:34 he is leaning against a wall. At 8:50 he is leaning against a wall. 12:00 leaning again. Hard work, I guess.
