Exploring Canada's Backcountry / Overlanding in a Defender - S01E23

In this episode I explore Canada's backcountry and get to see British Colombia's amazing beauty.
I explore a small valley, hike up to the Joffre Lakes and end up camping on the beautiful Gun Creek at the Carpenter's Lake.
For once the Land Rover Defender is performing flawlessly, although I get hung up in a ditch and rip the step out of the rear cross member.
Overlanding in this part of the world is so much fun, if only there weren't so many mosquitoes...

Yes, it's amazing, isn't it. Just thinking back, what crappy footage phones produced just 10 years ago and now you can have a proper video camera in your pants pocket.

Just tuned in to this video and really enjoyed it. First of all, welcome to bc. I immigrated from London England forty years ago and have lived here ever since. I love it here. Like you, I do a fair bit of overlandding myself in my 2016 4runner trail. this must be a really exciting adventure for you to take, if possible, could you walk around and explain your setup with the land rover and any other points of interest. thanks, and remember to be safe out there .

Thx, yes, it's very exciting. Mostly because, as you know, there's no backcountry/gravel roads over here. So it's nice to actually DRIVE through amazing nature instead of just parking the truck in a parking lot and going out for a hike or something like in Europe. As for the walk through: yes, I guess I should do one at some point. 👍😉

Awesome video, video and landscape! Can I ask you one question though, since you're solo driving.. what's your plan B in case of a a breakdown out there that can't be resolved with stuff you have with you? What are you doing in that case? Just asking because I want to do the same at some point and I rather come prepared haha.

Thx Kevin. Well, for getting stuck I carry recovery gear (winch, ropes, sand ladders, shovel), for mechanical break downs I carry a lot of tools and spare parts for all (or at least most) show stopper parts and for proper emergencies I have a Garmin InReach mini2 (a satellite SOS communicator). In addition it helps to have enough provisions (water & food) to last for a while. But yes, driving into remote regions solo always carries a risk. Fortunately I've been always lucky so far. The Rover brakes a lot, but luckily I never got stranded so far and could always limp back to civilization.
