I applaud Anica Mann for her immense patience for Gen Z’s ignorance for lack of reading history! She’s the perfect kind of teacher for the lot, probably the need of the hour. And yes people who are saying KZread has more History lessons than History books in schools, you know what - Duh!! obviously. School education is/was never meant to be absolute for the sheer limited ability of the school syllabus and assessments! People!! 😑

Anica Mann is carrying the burden of the Orientalist/ imperial school of thought which after independence was catered by the Marxist school of thought. That's why she said Brahminism instead of referring to them as Yogis and Hindus. The term was first coined by Gonçalo Fernandes Trancoso. (1520-1596) in the 16th century. Under the Vanaprasht tradition, Sanyasis belong to the strata of society. They mediated and become yogis and developed philosophy. I know she is from Oxford and if she goes against the colonial master. She would be forced to quit the oxford

How Samrat Ashoka became a Buddhist ? = After seeing the the heaps of body and river of blood during kalinga war .King Ashoka was haunted by these pictures and had nightmares which gave him sleepless nights and depression. During his visit to Sanchi ( his maternal uncle country ) he saw a 7 years old young vikshu and he was curious about him . He asked this 7 years if he can teach , he said the dhamma cannot be given in a casual way. Then Ashoka asked him to his royal guest house and then this young vante told him that those who gave dharma and those who listen dharma cannot be seated in place and then he asked Samrat Ashoka to be seated in the Throne . And then he said a teaching which essence is that " Those who practice mindfulness ( sati)doesn't have to die , one who practice sati gradually reaches the birth and deathless mokshya but who doesn't they are like in death already". Samrat Ashoka was amazed by this little Vante's teaching and asked about his guru , the little vante said he resides in Ashoka Ram vihar in Patali putra and his name is "Upa gupta ".Nowadays, some people are trying to change this historical fact because of their own political agenda , which is nothing but a false propaganda .

Hi guys big fan of the podcast and anica mann (the woman is practically every sapiosexual man's crush) to answer your question Westend End/ Shanti Niketan and Anand Niketan were hillocks which were leveled to accommodate mostly army officials, since it was planned with lot of greenery and as a place which was very retirement friendly (for walking around etc) the place quickly caught the attention of lots of industrialists who wanted to stay in close vicinity to central Delhi without the restrictions and were generally in search of peace and roads broad enough to accommodate their cars....... today the likes of the owner of Appolo, VLCC, the delhi adani guest house, etc etc and the owners of many more business houses have chosen to make it their residence..... it was around lakh for a small plot in the 1960s and the same plot would earn you about 15 crore today the ticket size is somewhere between 15 cr to 117 cr. I feel my data would have some merit cause I was born and brought up in this locality and still live here :)

She has very little clue about Indian architecture to be honest. Hindu Cave architecture is not there ? What about the Ellora and Elephanta caves, Badami standstone caves of Karnataka, Cave murals of the Tripura ? . Regarding jain caves, The caves at Gwalior , Ajanta and so many Gujjara-Pratihara jain temples, also the jain Deuls of Bengal which are over 1200 years old. Also her statement that current Indian temples do not follow the Shastras is incorrect. If you see the Akshardham temples and the Birla temples and even the ongoing Ram Temple are all following the Shilpa Shastras . She is not familiar with the taxonomy of Indian temples which is kind of surprising for an archaeologist. The Shikhara is the so called pyramidical structure of north Indian temples . The Vimana is the structure of Dravidian temples. The Gopurams are the gateways.

Anica Mann is a gem, but the interviewer is annoying by constantly interrupting her explanations, this is typical of many Indian Interviewers. Give her time to complete her explanation, then ask the other question for clarification. He doesn’t seem to know much about Indian history and religions.
