Exploring Bald Eagle State Forest for the First Time

Bald Eagle State Forest is an area I have wanted to explore for a long time now. This area, surrounded by Rothrock and Tiadaghton, is one of, if not the largest public land reservations in Pennsylvania. It's safe to say that on this trip, I only scratched the surface of what is here to see and enjoy.
Using my Purple Lizard Map, I turn off the highway immediately onto some gravel roads before finding my way to a very fun little "high clearance 4x4 road". A beautiful day and a fantastic little adventure--next time I will be sure to plan a longer stay!

Very cool video. PA has some of the finest forests in the eastern US. If anyone asks you how far into the forests you go tell them; "I've been to where the Devil bid the Owl, Goodnight"!

Ok, now that I've been there this past weekend (just posted the Day 1 video today) and we camped at Site 48 near that Sand Mountain area, I can say that this Sand Mountain / Little Poe area is just the tip of the iceberg. Overall it's just an incredible forest. Sharpback Hollow, Henstep, and Longwell Draft are all trails you should make sure you hit next time if you have a few days. Henstep is a beast, but a blast!

Hey dude...nice vid...love your use of the drone. I live 30 mins outside of Philly, but we have property in Kishacoquillas Valley, which is about 30 mins from Centre Hall. I'm just getting into off-roading, so I'm on the hunt for good trails. But if you want a great camping/picnic/hiking spot, check out the Alan Seeger Natural Area. At the intersection of Stone Creek Rd and Seeger Rd there is an absolutely gorgeous creekside area. The drive in is not technical at all (although I don't know how well it's kept up in winter), but very peaceful and scenic.

Thanks so much for the compliment! That road is not in Bald Eagle, it’s near my friend Mark’s camp, it’s on a road that accesses a bunch of hunting camps. So many people have asked me for the coordinates, I really don’t want to blow that road up out of respect for the property owners in the area

How did the tires do you get a year out of them and are they noisy going down the road

  • @DirtRoadTherapy

If your talking about the BFGs got about 2 years and maybe 35-40k miles out of them rotating in all 5. They didn’t get loud until the end, and even at that they were not that noisy. They chunked badly on rocks, and almost every one ended up with at least 1 plug in it. I had Patagonia MT 01’s after that for about a year and though much louder and heavier, they did great and didn’t chunk. I have Nitto Ridge Grapplers now that I’m on 35’s and of those 3 tires I would go Patagonia again no question

At min 9:44 you probably didn’t realize you came across two black bear. As you’re come up to a slight bend in the road you’ll see one black bear on the right about 40 yards up at the edge of the ditch in the brush and bolt back up the hill immediately followed by another that was a few feet further up. Awesome!
