My dad went there. My girlfriend went there. Half my co-workers at my first job went there. Heck, Sam Elliot even went there. David Douglas High School, just a little ways east of my neighborhood, has the largest student enrollment in the state of Oregon, and by a fairly large margin. I've been past the school a good number of times but never really took the time to walk through the campus where there's a nice mix of interesting things to see.

Fun tour! I went to Douglas all 4 years. Loved it
That covered walkway is called the breezeway and it connects the main building and the VFA building, we would have to walk between buildings to get to different classes, and it rains a lot so... covered breezeway. The DDX was a working train that one of the CAM classes built as a project. It wasn't a realistic thing to use because you could walk between buildings faster than it took to ride the train, but it was a cool project. DDHS has 2 gyms, 2 cafeterias, pool, and an entire Performing Arts Center with an auditorium. It was a freaking great school to go to

I went to DDHS from 1969-1972 and it was clearly a better school back then. However, since I haven’t been back there in 50 years I can’t really say what it is like today. Since the years after graduating, I understand the Junior BLDG and Senior BLDG combined I think for all Freshmen thru Senior students but I could be wrong about that. That last building before the Swimming Pool was for shop classes. That campus has certainly changed.
Shared. I went to DDHS. I had Ms. Reynolds for drama class who taught Lindsey Wagner (The Bionic Woman) and of course Sam Elliott. She was a great teacher but when she got mad, watch out! Her face would get so red like a tomato and she looked as if she was going to explode. lol
The DDX was a project that was started in the late 1990's to early 2000's. I never got to ride it.
I miss high school man
12:48 Thats the old pool building, theres a new one but one of the reasons why it's not running anymore is because someone drove a car into it twice.
12:00 ancient school pool
DDX Was the David Douglas Express. One of the trades classes built a working light rail to help shuttle disabled students between classes. The "train" was two buses welded together.

Hey, Steve I love watching your videos, I live around the area in SE Portland, I take walks a lot as well hoping I'd bump into you one day, I watched your super bowl video when you found a lost dog at David Douglas parking lot, I swear I was at the school the same day you shot that video, it was insane hope we meet one day!

Hey! Check it out, Portland is a plywood city now! I seriously doubt its coming back. This high school no longer requires learning so its not really a school at all! The super bowl? Who the hell wants to watch idiot liberals play sports. Sorry, football os no longer something to talk about amongst men, only cowards are still watch the NFL these days.
You missed the east campus.
My husband and my ex-husband both went to David Douglas
Hi Steve, I was wondering if you’re going to do a livestream anytime soon, have a couple questions for you.

My family has been going to dd since I don't know when but I'm part of the generation too
12:11 That's the current swimming pool. I think they were probably updating it. There was a rumor that the pool was haunted bc some kid drowned there. Don't know that's true or not.
U just passed the garden that’s where I go everyday I do garden
I was there in 1968. Who is your dad?
I like this video. Lincoln HS. 1969_73
Is it typical to have swimming pools in your high schools? I'm on East Coast and none of the public schools around me have pools. Thank God my high school didn't have a pool. Gym can be humiliating enough for a lot of kids, and then they want to put them in bathing suits and see if they can float? Good Lord!

I think it depends, maybe if its a larger school most likely so but smaller ones probably not, I could be wrong tho

We did. I absolutely hated it. They never gave us enough time to dry our hair in winter.

I feel like it’s pretty rare. David Douglas is the only school I know for sure that has one. Some of the more higher end schools might have them but I’m not sure.

My dad’s school has one and it’s indoor. I also know another school which has a pool. I’m going to keep the names of the schools undisclosed.
Cool...I think Benson High School is the largest high school in Oregon isn't it??
