Exploring Angkor Wat - Out and About
The name Angkor Wat is synonymous with travel, adventure, and Cambodia. However, a common misconception is that it's just one site. In reality, Angkor Wat serves the most iconic part of a larger, 400 square kilometer (154.4 sqmi) archeological park. The hallowed grounds are considered one of the most important in Southeast Asia and chronicle the Hindu and Buddhist beliefs of the Khmer Empire between the 9th and 15th centuries.
In this first installment of Out and About, I take you on a four-day journey through Angkor Wat Archeological Park. The episode begins at sundown on our arrival day and trip to the park to obtain admission tickets and a breathtaking sunset inside one of the temples. We then return to Angkor Wat the following morning to explore the famous UNSECO site World Heritage site and Little Circuit. Day two focuses on completing the previous day's task as well as seeing other temples on the Big Circuit, culminating with a return visit to Angkor Wat as the sun fades into oblivion.
Our final day inside the park began well before sunrise. Staking out ground beside one of two reflecting pools in front of Angkor Wat, we waited patiently for the sun to rise. Getting there early was key, as hundreds of people try to out do one another for that perfect shot. From there, we traveled to the extreme reaches of the park for some of the lessor known sights, that were in many ways just as beautiful, if not more so than Angkor Wat.

It is interesting how many ppl around the world have been brainwashed to think cambodia was a civilization of "barbarians" but the detailed and intricate art and architecture of cambodia tell a different story. I could only imagine how life would have been like there back in history. Awesome video as always. Thanks for sharing with the world.

The small and smaller doors means that you have to bow down when entering the compound showing respects (according to a tour guide).

Awesome video Steve Miller!!
Is this spontaneous narration? If so, you have a natural talent. Love your oral presentation. This is better than National Geographic. It is amazing the amount of work you put into these and the quality you achieve. Thanks for sharing. You and your wife are a team of 50 people. Production, narration, cinematography, presentation, editing, dubbing, writing, etc. Sorry if I went overboard, I am that impressed.

Angkor has just astounded me, to say the very least, ever since I saw it. Thank you for making this video. I'm glad at least 1 other person enjoys taking in the ancient sites as I do and marveling at the ingenuity.
Great video, Steve! I'm already hooked on your "Out and About" series after this. I think Cambodia and Angkor Wat will be my winter trip this year!

excellent video!
great video, it was wonderful to see you visit all these awe inspiring temples, my answer to the last question is gwrych castle, gwrych castle is a 19th century folly located in north wales near where my grandparents live, it is wonderful and their is so much to see there, its now derelict and isnt open to the public but there is public rights of way throughout the grounds and formal garden ruins and i love visiting time and time again because i always see something new.
YOU ASK what is the one place I go back in thoughts over and over. It is for me San Miguel de Allende la gruta thermal springs. It is not much in terms of things to see but it is so so peaceful and the hot springs just makes me feel so relaxed that I go back thinking about it and it relaxes me. I try to get there twice a year - it is a quiet peaceful town with not much to do and that is why it is special. It allows me to relax.
Truly an awesome video. I can tell you really loved your time there and I totally get what you meant at the end of the video about the sensory overload. My first trip to Japan was a mere 6 days and even though I had a good plan for seeing as much as possible, once I got back home, that feeling of needing to go back came on strong. Considering I am scared of flying, the fact that I went to Japan 7 times really drives home the point of how important a place it is to me.

Thank you, Steve.
Steve, This is the one place where I can go back time and time again! What's the name of the last temple you visited in your video? I don't think I've visited there yet.
Hi i'm cambodia,i love temple in cambodia
Thanks Steve iam going there next month
You feature more views of your face than you do of the carvings!
Wow Cambodia
I once saw a program that compared the foot print of Angkor Wat, The Great Pyramids and some other complexes around the world. From an arial view they all seem to represent the positioning of Orion's Belt and certain star configurations. As well as the positioning of the complexes in relation to the cardinal points. It is a stunning complex, but I wish more of the structures and iconography survived in better shape.

Steve I did Angkor Wat back in January of 2007 it was the best time of my life. I also did Seoul South Korea and had a blast as well. The only thing I wish I could have had with me is my sony nex5n and my Gopro hero 3+ black because I would have got tons more videos and pics. By the way you remind me of Walter white from breaking bad.
Lovely country. I hope the people are nice too, especially the men ;)
Amaging Hindu temple...... Angkor wat
Just finished watching the video. It brought back great, fresh memories of the five days my family and I spent in Siem Reap in Dec '13. Like you, we toured Angkor Archaeological Park over three days. Awesome!! I really enjoyed your program! What time of year were you there? Would you mind sharing the titles/artists of the music played through-out the program? Really nice! Thanks in advance!

Thanks Globetrotter. This was filmed in January 2014 on our recent trip. It was a great time and I'd love to go back and do more. As for the music - That's going to be a little difficult. I use Smart Sound to do a lot of my scoring. Each section had two or more tracks from some 20 albums I have. Plus, with Smart Sound you can choose variations and moods, and I spent some time tailoring each. So "World Groove" appears three different times, but I composed it three different ways, so it sounds different each time.
I just want to say thank you for your interesting the history of Angkor Wat Cambodia 🇰🇭 most of turase just look but no interest.
Ah, Angkor Wat is great place for insipration, drawings and studies.

Temple is great but I go back to the rice field again and again.
Hay that foot print you don't know is the foot print of our God.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇰🇭
They had help building perhaps star people were also our ancestors Buddha went to Angkor a few hundred years after. They were built
I was born there never got to visit the Temple, cause I was too young and than the Khmer rough took over while I was 7 years old.
Waw! Thanks Steve Miller, great video and naration. Love the presentation which is very well done except some annnoing audio interferences.Your wife was the Camerawoman? Well done, Mrs. WE are going to visit Angkor Watt in about 18 days. By the way, did you use iPhone or DLR camera or Video Camera to shoot this? Seems pretty study footage. Did you edit very much? I know you have added some Voice over on some parts. All is all very good efforts fpor this creation. Good Luck.

Harshad Patel - Glad you really enjoyed this video from way back... I can’t recall what shots Jo helped me out with. But the majority of the shots were just me, a GoPro, and a Canon HFS11. As for editing.... I had about 10 hours of footage in total to edit down to this presentation.
The doors way is lower cuz it an honor to lower your heads or Bow down your heads to enter any places
Great video Steve, I am heading there in a week. Quick question, not sure if I understand that first 'tip' with getting the ticket on the evening before .. you mean the 3day ticket? and you already can use it that day, so you basically get 3.5 days ? or you get an extra 1 day ticket? (is there such a thing?) cheers
@ItsSteveMiller

essentially a 3.25 day ticket. since you only get in for sunset. They sell 1, 3, and 7-day tickets.

Steve Miller Did they have dinosaur carvings or engravings in Angkor Wat as people say?
IN Cambodia កម្ពុជា
Angkor watt and Angkor Thom is a lot older than they're saying Cambodian ancestors were lemurians from mu. The motherland that sank several thousand years before Atlantis.

Its a lot older than they're saying
Not much in the way of statues at Phear Khan
Can’t stand videos that have the person in the middle of the screen and you miss out on all the good views
I'm glad he filmed himself most of the time he's talking so I can corroborate his lip movements with his speech. I'd hate to just look at Angkor Wat when I could be looking at Steve Miller talking about Angkor Wat instead.
Would love to see it if there weren't thousands of other people to squeeze through. I guess the whole world is a tourist trap now.
Some of that arch way you have to lower your head for the respect.
