At 3:26 before entering the front door the guard said to them, do not smoke inside, now a day you shouldn't smoke.... 12:15 the guard said, are you two study in Shanghai? Here used to be crowded with people. 14:49 he ask if you wanted to look inside the room, there's no more so call "room". 15:52 ok, ok to go? 15:57 guard said, you guys may go down to film or explore yourselves and pointing the way to downstairs. 16:17 he ask there's a bigger place if you guys interesting to see? 23:28 guard ask are you guys done, is about time to leave..if you see the end of the hallway? you may go check it out. 26:52 getting dark..you guys should go now.. 28:08 thank you, good.

In the big hall with the fish tank (the wedding venue), the guard is saying “this place used to have lots of, lots of different guests.” My guess is that this guard started his work here way back, when the hotel was still very popular and had a lot of guests. He seems to be very proud of the hotel back in the day, that’s why he’s willing to show you around the place. And he definitely misses the old days.

@Mo Chow I bet it was a welcome break from the monotony of babysitting an abandoned hotel that is rotting away. I also wonder how much money it would realistically have taken to keep atleast the shell of the hotel intact over the 15-20 years it was abandoned. If they had patched holes in the roof and replaced broken glass, i bet that hotel would have been in a lot better shape today, than it was. It does not take a big hole in the roof for water to get in, and make it worse and worse. If they have money for a 24/7 guard service, i would, imagine $5000 a year to keep the place patched up would be possible.

  • @JohnDoe-bd5sz

@Mo Chow If kids dont want to spend money, they could sell it or even give it away, which would still be cheaper than keeping it until it has rottet away and worthless and even having to pay for the guard. It seems to me that what these owners have done is the least profitable thing they could have done. I dont know if there is such a thing as property tax, but if there is, they are also paying for the land, even though they have zero income from the land.

Nice of the guard to let you in once he realised you were just curious tourists. Buy that man a beer/coffee/sandwich. You guys are probably the most interesting thing he's seen at work for a long time. I am always amazed at how things in the east seem to be left fully furnished - like this, the Royal Hotel on Hachijio, the theme parks....... In the west, the place would for sure have been cleared of the furniture and furnishings, sold off to recoup some of the losses. It's nice to see things left as they were. Those chandeliers look expensive. I agree with the people saying that the room he showed you was a wedding venue - dancefloor, grand centrepiece fishtank, stage. It's definitely set up for big events rather than ordinary breakfast service. Thanks for another awesome video guys - been binging your stuff during quarantine, makes time fly!
