It's really sad when historic buildings are in such a state, it would be such an honor to repair a Chateau like this, but it must be costly to get just in a decent state.

It looks more like an institution than a chateau. Dungy and with bad 70ies repair. Usually there is sign of good taste, grandeur and elegance, but not in this place.Creepy! One does however appreciate even more the work you have done to your Chateau!

In France they have a law that you can’t just leave your property to one child. It has to be left to all children and then they fight over whether to keep it or sell it and then it just gets abandoned. Then most people don’t have money to restore before they become unrepairable. They are then either left to rot or get torn down.

It’s so incredibly sad to see these places abandoned and ruined, especially knowing the history they carry with them. That was fun, interesting how you looked at the building from the point of view of a person who is renovating a similar property.

How dreadful that it's fallen into disrepair, but how wonderful for you to share it with us.

I find it so sad to see buildings of any type be left in such horrendous conditions. I truly hope that more of these buildings can be upgraded and loved.....

I'm glad you boys didn't take any risks, but I really want to go and renovate it now! Maybe in a few years when the world has settled down... xx

. . . don't know why I get sad when I see historic buildings falling apart. I accept _impermanence_ in the Buddhist tradition, but somehow sterile logic doesn't kick in. That said, I'm happy that so many Brits have dedicated part of their lives to at least one restoration somewhere in Europe. Generations will get to enjoy something that Mother Nature treats as nothing special.

Just because you accept impermanence, doesn't mean you cannot be sad about it.

One problem is that the bank loan system, the taxes and other set coststhe owner can not realy affect connected to running a chateau in good condition are horribly high in France (and a lot of other parts of Europe), i don by any mean say one shall not pay taxes, in fact taxes are extremly important in order to cower up the cost for hospitals, childrens aducation, caretaking of elders, etc, it is just that parts of the currentt system if outdated for this type of objects. I had easily bought a castle if i could afford all this, the renovation and mainteance it self is not the big issue. But binding up for loans is deffinitly. If i could buy such a site by my own savings without taking a lot of loans i had allredy, and many people with me.

Hello Michael ~ love your channel. ❤ I gave you a high-five on The Charles Dickens association with the house and Mrs. Habersham. It's my all time favorite book. I named my kitten Pip after the main character, then I found out she was female, so I named her Pippa and call her "Pip" 🐈 Always enjoy your videos and God bless Gwen & the new baby. Bye 👋 👧
