Grew up in Longmont all my life and it’s always been here

i grew up in Longmont and this place has always confused me, i have no idea why it hasn't been demolished yet! Back a few years ago there was rumors it was going to be gutted and renovated into a gentrified apartment building but it never happened probably due to asbestos and the general state of the buildings there. so cool to see a video of it! so many high schoolers would hang out here and explore it at night, was a go-to place to blaze before 420 was legalized lol

It hasn’t been demolished because it would cost millions to billions to get rid of all the lead and asbestos that’s in the walls in just the general area of the building

I live here and I drive past it regularly.

literally was here 2 hours ago. it was like 3am and found some other chill ass people.

homeless don't go here because of how trashed this place is, it would be more comfortable to set up camp literally anywhere else. its also far away from any services or public transportation so it wouldn't make a lot of sense to stay here.

I love how every non mountainous place in Colorado is just Denver. This place is like 40!miles outside of Denver.

Haven’t seen a single respirator in the video, this place hasn’t been Torn down due to heavy lead and asbestos in the air. If ur gonna go check these places out do some research and just like driving you’d wear a seatbelt, if ur roaming abandos wear a mf mask, respirator and always check ur research on certain places. Stay safe

@@acid07_ ur gonna be ok as long as you weren’t in there for hours on hours, a very wise old construction worker that I know closely once told me that asbestos works like little knifes and sharp particles in the air, the more your around it the more little pieces of “metal” end up in your lungs basically resulting in lots of different medical problems. Stay safe and get or use your own gear and kn95 or higher respirators. If your unsure wear it no harm no foul

Asbestos becomes airborne after it is disturbed. Seeing as how this group is just walking around filming and not performing demolition they are just fine doing what they are doing. The reason it is not demolished is because the high levels of asbestos/ lead will become airborne upon demolition. Don’t be an expert if your not an expert. BTW I am a asbestos abatement supervisor in the state of CO.

Yeah if Denver metro was 40 miles north of and smelt like cow dung. Anywhere north of Thornton is not Denver metro lol

Part of why the factory ahut down was that in Colorados early days, they had Access to the massive amount of water you need to grow sugarbeets on an industrial scale. However, Colorado has so much water because it is the headwaters for almost every western State and parts of the Midwest. The sugarbeet industry was leading to massive droughts, and is partially responsible for the drying of the land that lead to the Oklahoma dustbowl! It got so bad thay California and Texas were goong to march their National guards to Colorado in a war for Water. The Federal government stepped in an to this day Colorado is the only state to have Treaties with other states. Without the massive amounts of water, sugarbeets could no longer compete with more traditional sugar plantations and the industry collapsed. Thus ends the story of this factory. Ive always driven near that plant, i think, and Im glad I can see it now.

Actually now, four months later, there is. Most areas are fine and absent of electricity and security; however, one section on the bottom floor, near the grain silos, has power, along with cameras watching the other side of the door. Overall just stay away from the silos; smoke stack was a cool climb tho.

@@shambles3458 Sorry to hear that. You should definitely go back if you can; it was one of the best climbs I've ever had. Also when you do go back, check out the basement/cellar. Also there is a building full of styrofoam for some reason.
