Easy way to set up your rear end, put your spring perches on the alignment bolts, then set your rear end in place. Center your axle in the wheel well, then measure the angle of your output shaft on the trans, swing your rear end up until the angle meter matches the trans. Tack weld your perches in place, then remove the rear and weld in place. Done and a lot less math. Can be done with a tape measure and a angle guage

So cool that you are 2-0 on replying to my comments. Your videos are very helpful with my planning. Currently I’m building a 95 Cobra, but I have a 65 sitting in the driveway. I’ll be able to hit the ground running on that one, in part due to your videos.

Hi Angel, nice job getting it all together and installed. Thanks for the Wile E. Coyote math lesson - LOL. The "Wheel of Death" really comes in handy - I wish I had had one back in the day. We had cut off wheels, but they were pneumatic and dragging that hose around got to be a pain. Regards, Dave

Love watching this process! I’m learning a lot! Can’t wait to see how it functions. I had a 67 with an 8.8 swap. Previous owner did it himself and set it up so that the 3rd member was at 0 deg. when not under a load, and under a load would rise up… same as you I think. Problem is, every time I hit the gas hard, the 3rd member would hit the floor pan. The car also had awful wheel hop, so it would repeatedly slam the floors. I was told the spring perches should have been welded so that under a load, the 3rd member would be at 0. Again, don’t know that what I was told is actually correct. Personally, I wondered if it had to do with the suspension setup or maybe a mix of the two things.

Thanks for your feedback, glad you enjoy these videos! my guess would be that the piñon angle is not in parallel with the engine. Maybe the u joints were binding? Something was defiantly off though!

A better way in the future to remove that axle would have been to on the back of the springs unbolted them form the rear perches. Then remove the axle axle so you can slide it out better

One step closer. Thought you had it upside down but you didn’t hear me shouting. U bolts shouldn’t be too bad to find might even be a speed shop or suspension shop that can make you some new ones. Or just order some for the explorer you got the axle shaft from. Stay cool out there in the desert

If the original rear end is upside down at 16:42 with a 5° opinion angle, Aaaaaaand the replacement rear end at 17:14 is right side up with a 5° opinion angle, isn't that a 10° (delta) measurement on the opinion angle?
