Explored an UNDERGROUND Airbase - Soviet Tanks And Armored Trains | URBEX

In today's episode, we are on a road trip down the entire Adriatic coast to visit an underground airbase together with some unique military equipment used in the bloody breakup of Yugoslavia.
Our first location is a former Yugoslavian underground airbase. Such underground airbases were the largest military secretes of the former Yugoslavia. Today many of them are abandoned and some, like this one, are closed but actively maintained to be used in any future conflicts.
Our next location is a former armored train once used by Croatia's military. As war in Yugoslavia seemed inevitable in the early 90s, Croatia's national railway set up a plan to hasty convert one of its diesel locomotives to an armored train. Build to liberate occupied areas of the country, in the end it was never used and today lays forgotten in an active train yard.
As Yugoslavia played its neutral role in the Cold War, it received numerous military equipment from NATO and the Soviets. The T-55 was the most widespread tank in the Yugoslav army and was heavily used by bought sides during the 90s Balkan war. In the postwar years, many of those were disabled and placed as memorials across the entire country.

thanks for showing us this amazing bunker and those cool photos! i've seen that armored train in another video, does it have a name? in anycase its Very mad max and a spectacular example of the type of imrpovesed armoured vehicles used in that chaotic war. If you could visit the wreck of the KRAJINA EXPRESS and show vdeo of it that would be really cool as nobody seems to have done that, even tho the wreck is apparenlty still there.

Although these armored trains stopped making sense post WW2, they're still an interesting relic. Especially those with tank cannon bolted on top - too bad this wasnt one like that. 😅 Never seen the interior of a T-55 - its in surprisingly good shape! No graffiti either...😮

Yeah, it's a shame they even removed the small anti-aircraft guns on this one. The t-55 is in excellent condition, considering that it was abandoned and left without a hatch in the rain.

well actually they do makse sense if you have a lot of rail network to protect from partisan attack, which is also the case in Ukraine hence the presence of the Russian Armored trains. The one we see above was a very poorly armed by armoured train standards and even in the bizare world of Improved weaponry that was the norm in the Yugsloavia Civl war it would have been of very little use wthout some kinfd of infantry comliment. its also likely that a flat bad with a old tank or armorred car would be added at the fornt or back if it was ever deployed.. They are not intended to fight front-line battles and instead mostly serve to escort civilain and supply trains and protect rail repair workers from ambushes. Almost everybody uses armoured trains of some sort even if its just armour bolted on the driver caps of civilian locomotives during civil wars or other insurgencies.
