    This looks and more importantly, sounds like another winning Korg synth. I have the wavestate and the modwave - and whilst they're Raspberry Pi boxes - they're extremely good Raspberry Pi boxes. I like them - because: They sound good. They're light. They're compact - 3 octaves is good. Easy to carry, transport and take on tour The keybed is good enough - and I use them with a Korg 88 note keyboard live. The real-time control is essential for me. ( knobs, buttons and sliders ) They both have 4 gigs of memory - so all of the sounds are in the hardware - I don't have to rely on the VSTi's live I had been looking at getting a minilogue XD - however - this might be a better fit for analogue style sounds live. I can see the benefit of having a Korg Super Synth - with 76 / 88 keys And having this, the wavestate, modwave and op6 in the same unit.

    The concept and formfactor I really like (KingKorg owner) and the KK has great out of the box presets. MiniMoog and some spooky pads as phased strings and vocoder 😎 The different filters are classy as are the built in fx. The price is the toughest choice though a fantastic maschine 😀 As always Luke is a demo legend!

    The KingKorg Neo is an almost identical copy of the KingKorg (just compare the Parameters Guides), more expensive with two important "minuses": the overall Tube effect (a rare specificity of the KingKorg which had the advantage to add warmth to the sound) no longer exists in the NEO and of course this very small keyboard.

    I absolutely love my OG (black model) KingKorg. It’s one of the most underrated virtual analog synthesizers ever created. However, I’m a bit mystified by this “re-release”. The original- as good as it was/is - was noticeably lacking in a few key areas. First and foremost was the lack of an aftertouch sensitive keybed. The effects section is “good enough”, but nothing special. The VA waveforms are decent, and the filter models outstanding, but the PCM waveforms are - let’s just say it - not good, almost like a “hey we can throw this in for grins” kind of thing. This could have been a monster “upgraded” version, if they had offered an upgraded effects section, an expanded set of better-quality PCMs, and a AT capable keybed.

    Except this is EXACTLY the same as their OLD KK, minus the tube (ouch) and the 61note keybed (subjective pref). So… No real value! Find an old KK in good shape for much less. There are many for sale regularly. And if you absolutely must of for this version because of the size, then you should wait a year. These will be MUCH cheaper VERY soon…

    I do not hate the new form factor: looks like the raspberry pi trio base platform, that's fine... in fact it's a good thing. HOWEVER what I was hoping for kingkorg mkII was an aftertouch (if not poly) keybed, electribe sequencer, AND Radias like multitimbrality! This kkNeo and microkorg 2 release seems like a parts bin rehash. I sincerely hope Korg is not going the Modal way. I hope it doesn't. The Grandstage X looks and sounds gorgreous, and the raspberry pi trio MODULES are what I've been waiting for for 2 years. I'm just a bit puzzled with this one - a budget-tier version of the original? I still love kk btw (and if anyone wonders if tubes in kk are just a gimmick i hope you get the chance to check it out for yourself - they make fantastic difference when playing classic modelling - highly recommended). Thanks Luke!

No audio over USB no details as to the mod matrix capabilities and yeah guarantee this thing wont sell because of the price point (like the original KK) and they will fire sale it like they do their failures. As a software title in Korg Collection, this would be a no-brainer. But I can't justify that price for a synth made with a light plastic 37-key action and no "logue" oscillator/FX memory slots nor user sample memory. And how long is the boot time going to be? This is a serious question considering it's almost 3 minutes on the Nautilus!

If you really care, go get a used Original KK and play with it for a year and see if you like it. If you do, but would prefer the smaller keybed, resell that old KK for the same price (pretty much) and get the KK-Neo for a lot cheaper at that point. End of the story.

    Don't see the point you can get plenty of VST to cover this synth. You buy a synth like this for hands on vibe and more. It ticks the form but I'm not sure what else. Let's be honest you want be able to make a whole tune within it? What's the point of 24 voices of polyphony when you probably won't use it all?

  • @Screaming-Trees

    @Screaming-Trees

    6 ай бұрын

    @@TheBroDotTV Well you say that but I would say even the original KingKorg was a little limited in the "hands on" department. This version doesn't improve on that either. Also Korg have released both the Opsix and the modwave as software and you could argue your point with at least the Opsix. FM can use a lot of help when it comes to interfacing so what would be better than keeping it in hardware and hands on right? Lastly I would add the KingKorg engine itself would be an asset ITB more than hands on control hardware brings. Mainly because it is sort of a "best of Korg" engines combined into one instrument (DWGS, XMT, pcm, anthology of Korg filters over the years as well as some industry models etc etc). At least that's why the idea is attractive to me anyway. I can have a Korg anthology of sort ITB for this particular category. I am fairly clinical these days anyway I don't need to even play instruments just draw it in on the roll. This maybe isnt' for everyone but I can go either way. Play or just focus on fast composition and production. For those reasons I would prefer software.

  • @TheBroDotTV

    @TheBroDotTV

    6 ай бұрын

    @@Screaming-Trees I like hardware because you definitely get a nice vibe that you don't get via software but has to be worthwhile and integrate nicely within a set up. Equally I don't care for it too as most people who've been round the block can make decent tunes in the box. I dunno man I can't really see the point of this thing it just seems pretty limited for £1k. What's it really adding to a producer's set up other than some hands on control and like you say it's not even enough.

  • @Screaming-Trees

    @Screaming-Trees

    6 ай бұрын

    @@TheBroDotTV Yeah fair enough. Other than the Korg Anthology of sorts with regards to this particular category of synthesis, it doesn't add that much no. For me it's just that. That Korg sound of the last few decades (90s to recent times). You're right you can cobble together what the KK does using a bunch of other Korg synths (they got the whole Korg collection in software now) but the KK would still be convenient to have as a one stop shop of sorts when you're after that Korg sound of the last few decades. I have a bunch of analogue synths like the P10, the polybrute, Matriarch, Grandmother, Sub37 and a few others so I can relate on the hardware point. That said I make UK garage, techno, trance and few other electronica styles and for that the Matriarch and GM are the only hardware synths I use. I like the sound and I mean for electronica styles you can almost do it all with just a mono synth I guess. If I didn't have hardware I'd be fine with even just bare bones Ableton or Logic. When you start focusing on just composition and production you tend to be less picky about tools. Or at least this has been the case for me. I just fucking want to write a track not worry too much about aesthetics. But I am sympathetic to the other viewpoint too, ironically.

    Million dollar question, did they fix the useless MIDI sync for the arpeggio or is it still shit as it is on the original KK. The interesting thing as well is, will we finally get a firmware update for the original KK fixing all little stupid problems that seems to have been overlooked by KORG since the release of the KK back in the days..

    Korg is a disapointing company Imo. Upgrading older releases and asking top dollar. Like with the Wavestate SE and now this Neo. Neo cost 1.099,- euro. Compared it to the Roland Gaia2, what is a complete new synth, for 745,- euro. I'm not paying for pretty (with looks from the Access Virus TI2 Polar ).

    A poor decision by Korg. Original King's can still be bought at the fraction of the cost of the Neo. Admittedly it looks very well laid out, but at $1000, these will sell in tiny numbers. Would love to hear from anyone at Korg trying to explain / justify the laughable R.R.P.? A keyless desktop module with actual analogue filters / BBD delay that responds to after touch @ circa $500 sounds feasible, Korg?

    @@SynthOSphere Yes I dare you are right. Korg is just warming up the Coffee, okay Roland does this for the last 30 years and they turn around 360 degree without ending. I would rather buy the 61 keys version and save my money. But I love my other Synthesizers I already own more 😍🥰

    I wouldn’t say that. They’ve come up with great stuff these last years, they normally innovate well (unlike Roland and Yamaha) but this is just greed and money grab. Hey, if it makes a couple thousands people happy and helps save Korg from bankruptcy (this Neo probably cost them $50K TOTAL to develop, honestly. It’s all reuse of old stuff) then fine. It’s just sad that they will piss off a lot of people who buy in the first year, as the price will go down a lot after that, and lose future clients. True success comes from innovation.
