@@chrisdoesthings I saw some videos where Costa Maya is more expensive than Cozumel? Not much snorkeling in Costa Maya ? Can you please clarify? Thank you.
@chrisdoesthings
Жыл бұрын
@@SilverHonda0767 I would agree with that. Costa Maya is much smaller so there isn't a ton of options - so they can charge whatever they want. More bargains can be found at Cozumel for sure. That said - look up Krazy Lobster in Costa Maya. It might be worth the price of the meal and taxi fare to meet all of your needs.

Thanks so much for watching my video, Amanda! The pool was free! Chairs were also free as long as you were ordering food and beverages. We ordered a couple of beers and chips & guac over the course of the 3-4 hours we were there and nothing was ever said. I think in total we spent about $60.
Great Port Review! How much was the fish spa?
@chrisdoesthings
9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching my video! We actually just did the fish spa when we went back a few weeks ago, and it was $20 for 20 minutes. My 5 year old wanted to do it, so I asked them if they'd be willing to do 5 minutes for $10 (which I thought was a bargain for them) and they were completely unwilling to barter. $20 wasn't a dealbreaker though - so we did it and she had the best 20 minutes of her life. 🤣
Hi, thank you so much for all the info about this port! Were you able to find the cost of swimming in the pool?
@chrisdoesthings
Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! The pool was free, but the use of chairs required a food or beverage purchase. I'm realizing that I didn't include that in my edit - so good catch!

Interesting! We went back about 6 weeks ago and they've opened a whole new area with a brand new pool - so it could be that there is a new code for the new map! I think you can find it online if you Google Costa Maya Port Map

We went to this port again a few weeks ago and they have an entire new pool section back by the taxi pickup area and it is gorgeous. It's not a bad idea to stay in port! We have another video on our channel we just dropped about Coconut Water Tours if you're interested in what it looks like to leave port!
Its just a mall type port stop with a pool, some shops amd entertainment.

You're not totally wrong! It really is a great beginner port - especially for people who are nervous about leaving the country for the first time. Thank you so much for watching my video!
It was a few years since I've been to Costa Maya, but as I remember, it was mostly a terminal built for cruise ships, and not really authentic mexico. But Mexico Cozumel struck me as somewhat dirtier. I guess Key West is my favorite island, but that is America, and it is expensive. We cruised through the panama canal, down to south America, and that was neat, but the water was much much colder. Even Peru was colder, without the warm current, the area tends to be colder.
@chrisdoesthings

You are right in that Costa Maya is very touristy. I describe it as the Epcot (Disney world) version of Mexico in real life. I think it's a perfect port for those who feel uneasy about leaving the country for the first time though! I would love to go down to some of the regions you've been to though! Thank you so much for watching my video! It means so much!

Yep, we first started going around 2004, there was absolutely nothing there but a few shops, they've really tried to improve that stop. Maya Chan is a great venue as is the Maloncon in Mahahual. The Crazy Lobster and Tropicanta are both free beaches, you pay as you go for food and drinks, seats and umbrellas are free. Taxi is about a 5 to 10 minute drive from pier.
Three tacos 14 bucks dang ....

The port at Costa Maya is definitely a tourist destination so everything is on the higher end. If you're looking for cheap eats we didn't find any. Even the chocolate bar at the factory was $10.
Were there any cigar shops that you recall?

The Off Road Jeep excursion was horrible. It was more like riding down streets with pot holes. The jeeps were all in horrible condition. No AC in some, battery dead in others, wipers would come on at random, drivers seat would not adjust. You were not allowed to remove the tops.

Here's what I'll say - it wasn't crystal clear blue, but it wasn't dirty either. It was somewhere along the lines of what you'd see on a gulf shore beach in the states.
