Explore a Architectural Masterpiece: Hollyhock House

The Hollyhock House
Hollyhock House was designed by American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This was the architect’s first Los Angeles project and he sought to develop a style reflecting Southern California.
This lush, romantic structure is filled with details that reinforce Frank Lloyd Wright’s design ideas and vision for this special house. The building is the focus of the Barndall Art Park and it was among seven other Wright designed buildings added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It is an important example of Frank Loyd Wright’s architectural work because as a transitional design between his earlier work and his developing aesthetic which combined indoor and out door living space. It is the first architecture in Los Angeles and America to be recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
To tour the Hollyhock house require advance tickets and timed admission. A beautiful example of modern architecture in Los Angeles and a wonderful example of one of America’s most renowned designers of innovative structures. A classic Destination Temptation you should not miss.

Great video! Last time I was there, the inside was still closed for Covid restrictions. When they re-opened, they had a strict, no-filming rule in place, so I pushed it down on my list of things to go see. I'm so happy you were able to get these shots on the interior, and particularly at the end, showing everyone with their cell phones out! It's nearly impossible to keep people from filming or photographing on their cell phones. They recently had an art exhibit there, placing contemporary art & sculptures on the walls and throughout the interior. Was that still there?

I do believe Mr. Wright tricked Mrs. Hollyhock into believing a combination of ancient Egyptian and ancient Mayan architectural designs were his “abstract stylized versions of hollyhock flowers” 🤔 Wright’s son designed and built another home very similar to this one in which no one claims these design features are “abstract flowers”. 😁 I am not criticizing here, just making an observation. Frank Lloyd Wright is my favorite architect so I adore all of his creations. ❤️ Cheers
