Explicit Instruction versus Direct Instruction

There is a lot of talk about using Explicit Instruction in math and I think it often gets confused with Direct Instruction.
I’m Christina Tondevold, The Recovering Traditionalist, and today we are going to look at Explicit Instruction versus Direct Instruction in our quest to Build our own Math Minds so we can Build the Math Minds of our kiddos.

I would have liked to see you model this with a group. So many times a real confusion exists on how to do the instruction well. A sample outline on a plan may be helpful. Thank you

As a studying secondary maths teacher, I find it difficult to image how explicit instruction could be used during a maths class. I understand the benefit of explicit instruction in an English or HASS class where students can use their critical thinking skills to draw conclusions from multiple perspectives, however, when solving a math equation, there is only one correct solution. In a subject as complex as mathematics, I do not expect any students to just know how to solve calculations if they have not been taught in a direct manner previously.
