Explaining why we are NOT SAILING YET. - Episode 134

In this episode we explain that in order for us to take on the Pacific Ocean, we still need to do some more repairs and upgrades in order to do it comfortably. We also have to get emergency surgery for our puppy, and the vets say that it could be cancer...
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!!

At the end of the day, the title of the channel is Parlay Revival, all of these projects are part of said revival. You said it best, for the way she's looking to be used; these are required. Beyond that, it's your boat; who cares what people care what you do with it. Keep doing you Colin! Hope you and the crew have great holidays!

Sailing and diving footage is great.. but the out of the box repairs and "fixes" in the yard are what truly inspire a mechanic like me. Love the channel brother. Keep up the amazing work and thanks for letting us come along on the journey with you. If you make it to Oahu soon, first round is on me. Cheers.

I like seeing ALL of the ins and outs of sailboat life. The work and the fun. I'm 63 and have poor health, so I live vicariously through channels like this. I managed to do some fun things in life, living in Yosemite for 25 years, climbing, skiing, body surfing, and backpacking. Two of the things that I didn't get to do because of health issues were travel and see the world, and blue water sailing. I love all of the side adventures y'all get into. I want to see it all. So yes.. please keep showing it all. Makes me wish I was young and healthy again. I so look forward to seeing your adventures. Even the boatyard stuff. The people who aren't just there for the fun, but are willing to get in there and do the grunt work are your real mates. They will be there when the chips are down. And no matter how grand your life might be, there will be tough times.

Gentlemen, your channel is interesting to folks like myself due to the repairs and upgrades you do on parlay or other boats. The sailing is cool, the parties are great, however the repairs and upgrades are the meat and potatoes of your channel. I suspect most of your subscribers feel the same way. Just my 2 cents

Crossing the pacific is a operation that should be well planned and only done with a boat that you are really happy with, nothing half fixed and of course nothing without a weather protection. So it's effectively smart to do it know.

Don’t listen to anyone who says you should be doing something different just to please them. Even if it’s for luxury it’s YOUR BOAT! I speak for many of us when I say we’d rather your boat be done and perfect, then sailing with issues. Plus the repair content is what drew a lot of us here in the first place. Keep up the great work man, I always look forward to Sunday for these vids.

Forget the opinions and thoughts of others that do not agree with the way you are doing things. It's you that have to consider what you want and need for YOUR boat. It's you that is crossing the Pacific and it's you that must feel comfortable and safe on YOUR boat. All of the opinions from others are secondary and unimportant. Take all the time you need to make YOUR boat the way you want it and forget what others think about it. Just remember the old adage "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one".

I was raised with the adage "If you don't have time to do it right, then how are you going to find the time to do it over?" You're choosing to do it right so you don't have to do it over. Makes perfect sense to me. Besides there are a ton of channels showing the same old stuff about actually sailing, darn few do as great at showing the work involved and you stand out above the crowd with your patience and detailed explanations for how things get done and why. Prayers for Lindo, hope it turns out to be a false alarm.

Victron and Battleborn. Except no substitute. Good stuff my guy. Sorry to hear about your doggy. I was just watching a few of the videos where you first got him as a puppy. I'm sending positive vibes. And don't let the comments Pressure you. I imagine it's that demographic that originally subscribed for the adventure. They'll get what they want soon enough. For the rest of us the Repair & Renovation of the "Lagoon 450" is what for sure keeps bringing me back. But it is Colin and his Crew that prompts me to stay. It is there human experience. Living life the way everyone else wish they could.! You know they say "Genius is 1% inspiration. And 99% perspiration". And to that end your Einstein. So just keep doing what you need to do on your own time. Remember. " Slow is smooth. Smooth as fast.!" And that off the cuff circuit diagram was pretty good. I had to pause it and look for a sec. But you're good to go. I would have suggested a 48 volt system being approximately 4x more efficient. Requiring less expensive higher gauge cable. But technically it's not too late. You could just put those batteries into series to make 48 volts. But if either your Charge Controller and Inverter do not support 48V. You probably be out of luck. Short of returning and repurchasing 48 volt equipment. You will probably have to use the 12 volt system. But if 12 volt is what you wanted. Then you're all set.! But everything seems to be coming along nicely. And in a month. (or more probably too.) She'll be hitting the sea better than she's ever been. So from here it looks like you're over the hump. And it should be all downhill from here. But you know what they say. All the best laid plans. But no matter what comes up. Even if "It's not ideal". I have no doubt. "You'll make it work."! As always Great video.! 👍👍

Colin - You’ll be done when you’re done and not before. Keep going according to YOUR schedule. You guys are the ones that will have to deal with any problems on your Pacific crossing, so don’t let anything or anyone hurry you guys. Make sure all your systems are operating at 100% before you leave. Like you said, fixing things in Linton are far cheaper and easier than trying to do it in Tahiti or the middle of the Pacific. You’ve waited this long; don’t leave until you’ve got all your systems dialed in and working properly. Tell anyone trying to rush you to keep their panty hose on, and not to get them in a twist. Live YOUR dream!

And stripping out the interior without damaging it so badly that it can't be refitted then refitting it etc. ! Don't forget the many months of ground fibreglass down their pants and in their beds and having to move out of the boat during the worst of it so they had somewhere where they could actually get some sleep ! People tend to overlook the hardships they've had to endure this whole time because Colin doesn't show much of it in the videos, they see the Parlay crew letting their hair down now and again and they think that's all they do !

Good luck with your pup, hope he's well and healthy. Those same people who are so impatient are sitting at home in front of a computer, NOT working on their homes that will keep them alive while sailing across the Pacific Ocean (they might not even have a proper sense of size and distance because they can't read a map). So you folks never ever need to explain times spent fixing your home and making it the way you want it to work. Those other folks would throw a raft of wood on a pond and wonder why they are sinking. You have had the experiences thus far and know what works and what doesn't, hell you brought this boat back from the dead and have produced a vessel that will last decades if not longer. You've had the right people for the right jobs and should be proud of everything you've accomplished. Good on you all. Any more negative comments...just picture them on that sinking raft. Great job to you all. Cheers.

Drives me mad, people think they can have an opinion on when you should be doing what! YOU do YOU, they can choose to watch or not. I'm enjoying watching you get ready for your adventures and who cares if they are luxury items or not its your boat, your adventure, your choice. 😃

Keep doing what you need for your journey. I guess others don’t understand the path you are on. I really enjoy watching you tackle these problems sure beats watching people raise their kids while sailing sometimes.

Positive vibes for you and your pup. I’m a dog owner too so I get it. My dog had a growth removed two days ago so he’s wearing the cone of shame too.

Class act, and just the fact that you have filmed and edited and added music and made sure the videos are formatted for KZread and then upload all while working on your boat and making continuous progress is impressive. That is not to mention all of the things that you do for other people and then at some point find a little bit of time for yourself. Class act, total legend my bro!

If there is no urgent reason to get splashed and set sail, you're right to take your time and do all the things you need to do the proper way. Not only because you're in the right spot for it, but you'll better be confident and ready before taking off. @ 17:46 In order to keeping the work up to scratch, it's equally important to keep a good balance between work and leisure. Keep it up guys!
