Correction: Lightyear distances directly translate to years (it took for the light to reach us) only for the objects in local clusters. But at very large distances, that doesn’t work. You need to include the red shift while calculating it when the distances are too large. That’s why although observable universe is 13.7 billion years old, its size is actually 45 billion lightyears in all directions.

@@vikaraniga9078 when light travels through the universe, it gets stretched or compressed ( its wave length ). When an object (e.g. a galaxy) moves away from us it is 'red-shifted' as the wavelength of light is 'stretched' so the light is seen as 'shifted' towards to red end of the spectrum. Similarly when an object is moving towards us, the light from the object is blueshifted as wavelength decreases or frequency increases.

We don't exactly know how time works or why it is flowing in the direction of increasing entropy. In fact, we don't think of time as a separate entity. We refer to Spacetime. Because these two are actually one entity. Time is not universal, it flows different for different observers. Meaning, if you are running instead of standing still, you are actually time traveling. It's just that the effects are negligible that we don't perceive it in our day-to-day life. If you run at 50% of light speed, you will see the measurable difference.

The whole universe is expanding very rapidly hence, the actual distance of any star is calculated by adding the distance gained through expansion of the universe to the light years. If light of a Star "A" Reaches us in 1000 years, it is relevant to consider that in these 1000 years, the Star "A" has moved much much far away owing to expansion of the whole universe. In fact we can only observe that portion of the universe the light of which has reached our planet... this is called the observable universe and beyond this also exist a major portion of the universe. Some scientists say that only 5% of the universe is observable and some say that there are infinite numbers of universe 🌌. And look how arrogant we are. We are all fighting to claim Superiority. In my opinion this is the..."HEIGHT OF IGNORANCE"
