@@stefl36 Dq - loss. That's on his record. I know he won the rematch but he did lose in 1997 so to say he went 15 years without a defeat is just factually incorrect.

Most new age GOATS are too scared to even think about moving weight classes like jones did. That is the biggest thing that set jones as one of the top legends to me. He had a career only seen in career modes in fight night games. 💯🗣

@Dwarren Krulliver Reality is though he challenged mike after he beat Ruiz for the HW title and tyson had only been out for 5 years and said NO!, that wouldve been a much different fight, roy had not loss body weight on huge levels yet. From what I saw him do to Ruiz I think he couldve taken Mike back then.

Don't expect a war in the ring... I honestly think this is just a money making scheme. I mean both of these boxers are legends. Who wouldn't want to see the two go at it? But I read that they have agreed that they are going to try not to knock out each other. Nevertheless I will be watching it live.

I'm not sure Jones would've had the gas tank to carry on at HW. Putting on 25lbs of muscle is a lot to keep going. Not quite a 40lb children's Halloween skeleton costume, but still heavy.

The issue for Jones challenging Tysan was that he's an amazing fast boxer. But when you are facing guys like Tyson is that if you can't put them down, at one point, chances is that they will connect and the moment someone like Tyson connect, it turns the table for someone that doesn't have an iron chin

RJJ was a once in a generation athletic anomaly but to become a king of killers it's hard to ignore that drug testing wasn't very refined then (and it isn't perfect today). The tests weren't good enough to catch them, and the stakes were far too high to not use every advantage when $Millions and Worldwide Fame were on the line. There was too much to lose and too little to gain staying natural at the top. I'm not knocking him though because to get those results he still needed one of a kind talent, correct muscle insertion+response genetics, and serious work ethic.

Yeah in MMA I equate BJ Penn to a similar career. Was a legend and went all the way from lightweight (155) to heavyweight (205+). Dude went up to 170 and took the belt from a prime Matt Hughes who was an absolute monster and then went back down after to take the 155 crown. But then he just stayed around for too long and went on a loss streak.

Don't really care about his losses because he lost when he was done.

Jones' style grew around his speed, his sublime reaction time & his blindingly fast reflexes. As with all athletes, these attributes & skills decline with age. And, as we all know, a split second is all it takes to make a difference.....the difference between a punch landing & a punch missing. Add that to a decline in punch resistance & we see the results; it was always on the cards for Roy as he was unable to consider retirement.

They way you put these videos together makes me feel like I was there. I get all excited to watch these videos, thanks for your hard work!

While being one of the best boxers ever, Jones over estimated his body. Moving weights make or break fighters.

Yeah, especially for Roy. His weight jumps were unnatural. Unlike most boxers, who fight many pounds below their natural weight, Roy fought not much below his natural walk around weight. So to go up to where he did, come back down, at his age, was ill-advised.

That weight cut for that heavy weight fight killed the invincible Roy Jones. Tarver caught him at the right time (no pun)..... as it always happens.

Biggest mistake when it comes to legacy was fighting Tarver post dropping the weight. Had he fought him and then moved up, history would wax lyrical on Roy.

Roy Jones is waxed on historically as one of the best pd for pd fighters ever right there with sugar ray robinson. He killed everyone in his division and went up just to get challenged more. Absolute nightmare in the ring. His legacy is etched in stone as one of the greatest just ask toney and anyone else who had the balls to get in ring with him.

I remember the Jones Hopkins fight very clearly. I remember going into thinking it was gonna be a real test for Jones. I left the fight thinking Jones just made a great fighter look like he was in way over his head. It was crazy how well Jones fought in that fight.

I would love to see Roy Jones Jr against Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns or Marvin Hagler, those would have been some great bouts.

After 15 years of a flawless record, He grew to be a super cocky fighter. He began to be lackadaisical in his fight preparation. In other words, he beat himself. He was actually one the most talented fighter ever.

If Roy had retired after the Ruiz or first Tarver fight he’d possibly be considered the GOAT 🐐 🥊

That and playing basket ball b4 a fight. I know he was trying to challenge himself, but that is to much stress on your body. Yep should've hung 'em up after the heavyweight title. Still cannot take anything from him. That guy was a monster at middle, supermiddle and light heavy. Think of the middle or supermiddle weight division today. Who could beat him? How about this, ask Mayweather who would win a fight between Roy and him at a catch weight. Hopkins or even Lights out would whup all these middle super and light heavys today, in their primes. Roy made those guys look like amatures. Besides maybe sugar ray Robinson he was the best middle supermiddle weight, and could make an arguement about being the best offensive fighter of all time! He just hit to hard and fast at those weights.

I am also a huge fan Roy Jones Jr, and he's one of my most favorite boxers of all time! Having said that, I am pretty sure that Roy lost his speed and coherence after experimenting with some harmful substances that helped him gain weight and strength needed for the heavy weight division. Gaining and losing weight is always bad enough, but I think that steroids and perhaps some additional substances he was taking on and off at the time were the real reason his career went downwards.

I state this with knowledge and passion for the sport of boxing. Forget the weight drained weak Rjjr, ALWAYS remember the most remarkable talented PURE amazing boxer WE HAVE EVER SEEN & I don’t care what anyone says. Rjjr had everything, crazy speed crazy control crazy movement crazy ring craft he had it all & multiple hooks NO ONE could replicate. This guy was untouchable & I LOVE him for blessing us with his skills. I am disgusted in Rjjr fans, people pundits that dropped him after his decline. Rjjr yr my man forever & TBE IMO.

I watched all his fights" he was "for real" Roy Jones, "the best.

His career would be seen so different if he had just retired when he should have.

After he beat ruiz he should have been done and went out the best fighter in history p4p. He had nothing else to prove he dominated the competition he even wanted tyson back then we heard it out of his mouth and i think he would have beat him in 2003.

He still one of the best in my book crazy speed plus power

It's amazing how even though they didn't get to fight in the early 2000s that they're still going to make that happen 20 years later

He should have never gone down from the heavyweight class. That ruined his natural balance and strenght.

Roy Jones was the most exciting fighter of that era and I don’t think anyone has matched his speed and ring IQ since then. You are 100% correct about the rapid weight change being his demise

He wouldn't have lost if he had retired when he should have. I think moving up to heavyweight and then moving back down to light heavyweight was a mistake. The only fighter who ever did that and was successful was Bob Fitzsimmons and that's because he was the same weight when he won the heavyweight championship and the light heavyweight (actually I believe he was a pound heavier when he won the light heavyweight title but I could be mistaken 🤔), but anyway that and combined with the fact that he just simply hung around too long. In his prime tho, he was almost untouchable!! Truly, a phenom!!

losing all that weight jones put on to fight at heavyweight destroyed him!!

He was untouchable until he faced tarver who was his kryptonite. People can't use no excuses because tarver and Roy are the same age and tarver technically beat Roy Jones all 3 fights, reason I say technically is because the first fight they gave to Roy even though tarver should have won. Tarver wasn't happy and got his revenge in the second fight saying, "you got any excuses tonight Roy?" Later on knocking Roy out in the second round. Then they fought the third time and Roy got rocked so many times that fight and in the end lost to tarver by UD.

I always wondered if gaining the weight to move up to Heavyweight then having to work his ass off and have a routine to lose weight inorder to fight Tarver made him more sluggish that added on to his age just unraveled him. alot of fighters when they move up and then back down dont fare as good usually. most of the time when a fighter moves up they stay there. I don't see Tarver winning against Roy Jones in his prime. Jones was by far best fighter i have seen in my life.

No was like Roy style, , perfectionist, is art ,no one was looking like him , one of the best ever Bless him amen
