That granulation medium makes for a very atmospheric, moody scene Cathryn. Lovely work :-)

I really enjoyed your video. A great atmospheric scene. The way that you used the granulation media was different from some of the other artists. Your method seemed to work much better and gave the effect that I would be proud of. Other people add it to the paint before starting. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful results. Most masking fluids recommend NOT using a hairdryer because it can cause it to stick and often discolors the paper...I think you got lucky this time.😮

Glad you liked the demo. I’ve always used a hairdryer and it’s been fine. It depends on the quality of the paper.

I've been researching watercolor and granulation processes, which is probably why your video came up in my "home" page on KZread. I'm so glad it did! This is a beautiful work. The previous viewer commented surprise about Cotman producing such a stunning effect. That doesn't surprise me because of the increased ratio of binder and filler in Cotman, which is why my old set is sitting in the back bottom of my paint tubes drawer. 😂 It makes perfect sense that granulation medium would react with Cotman this way. Guess what! I'm going to drag out that old half-pan set and give this a try. Thanks for sparking the fire.

Hi Cathryn, thanks for a lovely demo. Do you find that different brands of watercolour, react differently to the granulation fluid? Some watercolours don't react and separate at all. It seems like the more expensive brands appear to get the best reaction, although my Derwent Graphitint palette does produce some good results.

Thank you for your comment and glad you enjoyed the demo. Yes, I also find the more expensive brands perform better with the granulation fluid such a Daniel Smith and Schmincke. But I always experiment with all different brands and materials to see, as you never know when you can stumble across a good mix to create can interesting effect!
