Sadly Obsidian was mostly used in spears, if you had an ordinary sword, you could coat the blade with obsidian to make it look like obsidian.

guys the mod pack you need to download real life texture pack only takes 8 years to download and 1 frame per year except this ytber hes pc is made of minecraft mods and also the obsidian mods you just have to get a diamond pickaxe and download the mod

You can break obsidian with bare hands in minecraft but its takes very long time and the obsidian transforms into air. But in real life weak obsidians can be breaked with bare hands in second but in real life strong obsidians is unbreakable with bare hands(but your hands are breakable agains strong obsidian).

And a diamond pick would break easily, as its a crystal, although being the hardest material (not the most resistant) or how putting a helmet made ou of turtle shells, which doent cover yoir face(woulnt make a difference) can make you breath underwater for a short time
