Experiencing Ramadan In Bahrain As An American: Insights & Essential Tips | IllustratedBySade.com

Hello from Bahrain! I'm sharing my unique experience as an American living here during the holy month of Ramadan. When I first moved here, my knowledge of Islam was minimal, and I had never experienced Ramadan. Please visit my website to get more information: www.illustratedbysade.com/
This video captures my journey of understanding and appreciating this significant time for Muslims. As Ramadan approached, I learned about the practices, the dedication to faith, and the community spirit through shared iftar meals.
My experience is not just about observing but truly understanding the essence of Ramadan and respecting the culture that warmly welcomed me.
For fellow expats or travelers planning to visit the Middle East during Ramadan, this video offers valuable insights into the customs you should be aware of and how to participate in the local culture respectfully.
However, during my stay in Bahrain, I gained a greater understanding of the importance of this special time for Muslims. I witnessed the sacrifice and dedication of local people to their faith and enjoyed sharing meals with them.
As someone who grew up Catholic, fasting was not foreign to me. I learned that Ramadan is a sacrament in honor of good health and good fortune and a moment for reflection for those less fortunate. In this video, I express my appreciation for the people of Bahrain and hope that others traveling to the Middle East during Ramadan will find it informative. Ramadan Kareem!

    Hi!!!nJust FYI, Ramadan is based on the lunar calendar so it starts 10 days prior every years. So this year, its end of April till end of May. Next year it will be mid-April to mid-May. Etc, etc. In a decade or two it'll be in winters! Great video! Was very heartwarming to see a non-Muslim educate themselves on the basics and be so incredibly respectful!

  • @illustratedbySade

    @illustratedbySade

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think so yes; however, I would be mindful to not wear anything too form fitting as it may garner lots of stares. If you do because you’re going out to dinner or brunch or something, during the commute, I’d recommend wearing a kimono or duster over it just to save yourself from feeling uncomfortable. It’s not necessary but it would be my recommendation

    Actually, from an American expat perspective, Bahrain is more expensive. The dollar conversion is roughly $2.65USD to $1BD 😅 It’s definitely not the cheapest place to live for foreigners. But still really nice if you can swing it.

    Hey could you do a vid on how to get permanent citizenship ?

  • @illustratedbySade

    @illustratedbySade

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello! Thanks for watching and for the feedback. I actually don’t know all the complexities of obtaining Bahraini citizenship, as I was only there off and on a tourist visa. However, from what I’ve heard if I’m not mistaken, it’s very difficult to get citizenship there. For non Arabs, you’d have to be a resident for at least 25 years, speak Arabic fluently and also own property. Bahrain is majority immigrants and its very VERY rare that they are granted citizenship. Also, I think you’d have to renounce your home citizen as well as dual citizenship is not allowed. Hope this helps!
