This is so great to have come across. I had severe delirium in ICU after being ventilated and the following weeks. I have a Facebook delirium support group and your doing a great job showing such interest in delirium. Thank you great doctors x

my father is currently in hospital and experiencing delirium. hes had open heart surgery and a bypass. he did not get much sleep before the surgery and while the first day or 2 after the surgery he was awake and making jokes (a common thing he does with strangers) however he was pretty unresponsive to questions and didnt really seem to be there and himself and kept drifting into and out of conciousness (he was on drugs of course). i dont think hes been able to get much uninterrupted sleep since his operation being in intesive care etc. the last 2 days hes become agitated when he wakes up and almost aggressive in wanting to get up and wanting to go to the toilet etc. and other times he wakes up and will answer a question or 2 before immediately falling back into unconciousness. he still doesnt seem like himself. its only been 4 days but the doctors and nurses are aware he has delirium and myself and my family are currently waiting and hoping for improvement. anyone going into surgery should be informed of this possibility, we were not made aware of it before. had we known we would have made sure he got more sleep before the op. sleep seems to be an important factor in it all.. he is constantly waking up and falling to sleep and each time he seems to act a little different.

hello sorry its been 2 years since i wrote this. my dad is doing okay now. although i guess forever changed. he was in hospital for a total of 6 weeks and only came out of the delirium after 5 weeks. having lost a lot of body weight. he was stuck in delirium for an extended amount of time compared to average ive read. but hes pushing 80 this year. hes lost a lot of mobility.. although im not sure thats related to the surgery he had.. more-so to his general health before and after. his memory has also been affected, although again im not sure if thats just age or what happened. but hes been almost back to his grumpy old self lol best wishes and luck to you all if you have family who have been through or going through similar things.

Thanks for this video it helped a lot they don't tell you about this at the hospital I was just released from. I am relieved to know I am not going round the bend. The United States healthcare system in utter caos. The only thing that holds it together at all are the nurses.

Thank you for this video. I just finished reading about delirium. My mom just had major surgery and she said, “I’m confused.” She’s never confused. Otherwise she’s doing well. Her oxygen went down a bit and she hasn’t eaten since the day before her surgery. But I know she doesn’t get much sleep due to dry mouth issues. I wish I could help clear her fog. It’s Day 2 in the SICU and well … I pray she comes back around real soon.

Hi I am experiencing something similar now with my dad. How did your mom make it out of this? I pray she is recovered and your family is doing well now.

@@NobleNoesis my mom, God rest her soul, made it past that confusion after her heart surgery. I wish you could’ve met her because she was so awesome. She ended up having a few complications pneumonia-, fluid pulled from her lungs, gallbladder removal (apparently the gallbladder does not like a bunch of surgeries so I’ve been told), and a time with gout when they were checking to see if she could start rehab. This is when delirium started. I was at work, the nurses were not listening to my mom nor my brothers about the gout. They sent her to LTAC and from there she fought to recover. This place had cameras to monitor patients. My logical, sane, beautiful spirit mother started expressing paranoia. She was “smiling for the cameras” and speaking in hushed tones “because they are watching me and I have to be good.” She even started second guessing her choice of vaccines. I witnessed a nurse throwing a medicine away as she was trying to tell them she’d like it with juice. My brothers and I spoke up about what we saw/heard. I took unpaid FMLA to be present more and speak up more. We had nurses taken off her case because of bad treatment. Told the doctors what we saw- charge nurses. My mom fought her way through the fog of being in the hospital for so long. She started to receive much better care. That helped a bunch and she was on the road to recovery, but the damage done in the earlier days of her after heart-surgery-care were too great for her body to take. Before she went through so much, she actually had a peep into the future and told us what would happen, WE just didn’t know what she was talking about at first UNTIL those things happened.

Right.. I recently just had a tumor removed and thought I was losing my mind. Not knowing this type of thing was normal feeling confused, disoriented, and feeling like you lost apart of who you were. It's good to know it doesn't last forever. Still going through it now

@@RyRobio I pray and hope you’re much better now. I’m curious to know if you were aware that you were confused. My dad just had brain surgery yesterday and is still in ICU. He seems to recognize us but names me and my siblings by numbers (in the right order thankfully). He only knows my mom’s name. And he keeps saying his home address when asked where he is. It really sucks to see him so unaware and lost. I wonder what’s going through his mind.

@@LadyD4truththank you for that. I wasn't aware of my post surgery condition until a few months down the line after doing some research. Then it began to dawn on me. I had forgotten who I was, but still remembered family, friends, and my life. It took about a year for it to fully come back. The main thing that helped it come back was constantly praying to God to restore my mind, doing things i used to love doing before the surgery, and not actively trying to force my memory to come back. Rather let it come back piece by piece. Your dad may be going through something similar. When I was doing research i recall it saying it's more common in older people to experience that, but it tends to fade out within a few days to a week. I pray your father makes a full recovery both mentally and physically 🙏🏽
