Small business make you feel better as a patron too. Big businesses don't give 2 hoots about their customers, you're just a number. If something goes wrong and they loose your custom, oh well there's 30k more people gonna throw money at them. Small business and mom and pop shops? That's where its at. They know that caring is the key. If you take care of the customer (good quality, helpful service) the customer will take care of you (repeat service, recommendations). You get good working relationships with smaller places. Also, your job is important. Most of these rugs would have no doubt ended up in the bin to sit in a landfill. Your job helps the environment in a small way by reducing the need waste what can be cleaned and reduce the amount of work needed to make these rugs (actual making, less to transport therefor reduced carbon footprint). Yeah it uses a lot of water to clean, but filtration and reclamation systems also reduce the wastage. I also imagine it's a hell of a work out too. Probably saves you a few quid going to the gym given how labour intensive and physically demanding the job is.

@@nikkinik4188 And yet your small business owners probably make more money from this KZread side gig than they do from cleaning rugs. Ask yourself why someone would request dirty rugs to be sent to them for free in order to make these videos instead of just proceeding as normal, even when electricity costs are higher than ever. Do you think there are a massive excess of dirty rugs that need to be cleaned by a power-hungry pressure washer?
Might seem like a strange comment but I really like that you clean your work space up between steps in the process. I've quit following a couple channels that don't. Makes for a more peaceful and enjoyable video.

I want one of these cleaning places for myself! I have a hatred/disgust/phobia of dirty carpets, that’s why I won’t have fitted carpets. When you see the filth that comes out of rugs, You know what is lurking beneath the ‘clean’ surface 😱. Wood floor and rugs all the way for me! As a child we only had Lino on the floor and a little mat by the bed. All mats were taken outside every weekend, draped over the fence and had 7 bells beaten out of them. In between the were cleaned out on the flagstones with a scrubbing brush and carpet shampoo called ‘1001’. I can still remember the jingle for the advert: “ 1000 and 1 cleans a big, big carpet, for less than half a crown!”
Happy New Year!! This was a great one! The scrubbing towards the end with the brush and groomer + the squeegee-ing with the hose underneath annnd the extraction at the end?! Just beautiful, chef's kiss!! Congratulations on 1k+!!! P.s. SHOUT OUT TO THE RUG GROUPIES ❤

I missed this one when it came out but it is fun to catch up on your projects. Thanks James.
What a beautiful rug! Love how soft it looks.
Your videos make me want to be a rug cleaner. I had to wash my own Chinese throw rugs out on the lawn, and try to rinse them on the clothesline, and it was no fun, no fun at all. Your set up is fabulous.
Have you tried using the pressure cleaner on the underside of the rug? The reason I ask is because it seems like a lot of the work in dislodging dirt from the fibres actually takes place when you clean the underside, because it pushes trapped dirt down and out. This was really evident in the video with the children’s wool rug that had long dense fibres. Cleaning the underside twice over might help to loosen and push trapped dirt out with those sort of rugs maybe, and using the pressure tool on the underside might help to shake the fibres, pushing the dirt down and out. Would love to see if this helps in the case of fibres that tend to trap the dirt and resist cleaning.
You sir an artist. You save lovely creations back to their beauty. Keep up the good work.

James, I’ve watched 10+ hours of your content, and I subscribed after 3 or 4 videos. So far this is the least inspiring rug (not your fault...it’s just a boring rug design and colors). A few things I’ve noticed so far: First, you simply are using way too much soap and therefore actually making your job more difficult and leaving excessive soap in the rugs even after extraction which will lead to them looking dirty very quickly after cleaning. You really only need to soap the rugs once, maybe twice if extremely bad, rather than the 4-6 times you are doing. Second, your order of operations. I think you would really benefit from using your CRB machine FIRST before you even get the rug wet. Since you do not have a dusting/beating machine, this will loosen up so much dirt which you should then vacuum out before getting the rug wet...yes we want to see those dry steps too! Third, pressure rinsing is something you need to do earlier in the process, and perhaps twice on extra dirty rugs. Fourth, the scrub brush you are using for manual scrubbing is too soft making you do more work with less result., a stiffer brush is needed. The rake is designed to be used after extraction, lifting the nap that’s been squished by scrubbing and squeegeeing, if you use it in the middle it defeats the purpose because you smash the nap down again with the scraper, squeegee, and other tools. Lastly, perhaps take a day and re-engineer your basin. It is too flat and causing you more work and more dirty water pooling back into what you’ve just cleaned. Raising the elevation on the camera end just one more inch would save you so much effort. None of these things are criticism, simply want you to exert less effort and get even better results! As I said, subscribed and liked! Off to watch another of your vids! Keep it up, you are growing fast!
