► About The Game...
In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.
The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough-there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.
Banished has no skill trees. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so. There is no money. Instead, your hard-earned resources can be bartered away with the arrival of trade vessels. These merchants are the key to adding livestock and annual crops to the townspeople’s diet; however, their lengthy trade route comes with the risk of bringing illnesses from abroad.
There are twenty different occupations that the people in the city can perform from farming, hunting, and blacksmithing, to mining, teaching, and healing. No single strategy will succeed for every town. Some resources may be more scarce from one map to the next. The player can choose to replant forests, mine for iron, and quarry for rock, but all these choices require setting aside space into which you cannot expand.
The success or failure of a town depends on the appropriate management of risks and resources.

Hoping this hasn't been forgotten in favour of Skylines 2. I was enjoying the return to Banished and the possibility of a modded runthrough too. xx
remove fish docs on tiny stream. they are not efficient and holding so many people from working in other places

Could just set them to 1 fisherman. Still not great but they're already built.

That's what I was concerned of. They produce proportionally to the water in their circle, but on that small streams i'd say there is very few water filling the circles. As asked, assuming 4 fishermans are too many, is it ok to have just one fisherman in those fishing docs or would he be better employed anywhere else?
You have 401 families and 275 houses. You need a lot more houses if you want to increase population internally. And your education level will affect how efficiently your people work. Better educated will yield a better harvest.

this explains the low children situation
Definitely need to check the actual production rate of those Fishing Docks.... Think you could just keep the ones on the lake and theres 100 Peeps extra for Labouring
If you pin your town hall building, you can have a constant inventory of the town, sorted by quantity, can make keeping track of stock alot easier
When you reopen schools you could try to bridge the time for students to become labourers with nomads. If the group that comes along is large enough they can counter the shortage that otherwise would occur. And about the pathing. There is a paths button in your tools and reports panel. When clicking on a workplace it shows you where the workers live, and in turn when clicking on houses you can see where the familymembers occupying the space go to work to. I found it extremely helpful for determining where more houses are needed and check the pathing regularly this way. It can give a massive boost to efficiency. Love your content and can’t wait to see more :D
A comeback like this in Banished is very rare and difficult to come by, but I'm here for it because now we get more videos!

I love a comeback story as much as the next guy, but I'll be brutally honest part of me was hoping for it all to spiral out of control
Do not forget to place Stone roads everywhere! And upgrade your cemetary, you have no more spaces since two or three episodes
LONG COMMUTES: Try setting all Jobs to 0 and then add in the original worker numbers again. I believe this resets where everyone is working and therefore commute should be quicker. Also: Keep in mind that uneducated workers are less productive (you have closed a lot of schools lately)

But do not set the Cleric or Teacher at 0 using this trick, or you'll loose all your students and you will face a happiness dip

Banished does this already, jobs will be reassigned automatically to closer homes. I don't know the frequency for when it does the reorganizing, but I've never had a much of a problem with long distance workers as long as homes were available near the workplaces. If the problem persists, then he clearly doesn't have enough homes compared to the jobs, nothing will fix that other then building more homes near the work places.
You might consider taking all the jobs other than teacher down to zero and refilling them which I think will have the peeps work closest to their homes. If you haven't seen Kingdoms Reborn it is banished inspired and one of the upgrades is having people automatically relocate closer to their jobs every winter.

Still waiting for another video patiently because I really like this game...also did you know that you could use your trading post as storage too??
I'd watch this series all day. Something I haven't seen on the channel, that I think you'd like is "Farthest Frontier". It's highly banished inspired. Probably less chance of a death spiral, but there are raiders, multiple unique traders, and tiers of things. I think you'd like it and I'd love to see your take on it. They have a large tree of add-ons they're working on. They've already added a lot. They plan to allow mods in the future. I also wanted to point out, that at 20:40, "Merica was born". then a few minutes later Americky. :))
I love the endless cycle of "im not gonna take nomads" and then taking them anyway
You gotta finish this series man. I want to see how high you can go.
About once or twice a year I randomly remember this game and fall in love with it all over again so thanks for the new series! I’m pumped to start up a new city this weekend.
It genuinely baffles me how worker-inefficient farms and pastures are in this game. I was bashing my head into a wall a few weeks ago with a brutal-mode playthrough (where you start with fewer supplies, fewer sims, no pre-built structures, NO seeds and NO animals -- all seeds and animals had to come from trade.) It was an epiphany to realize that starting the game with no seeds and no animals was almost a blessing, as it meant that the only way to survive would be to focus on plopping down a "Big Four" work zone with forester / hc / herb / gath. Maxing out those staffing needs, each workzone asap gets at least a pair of barns and a stockpile, and be very careful about where you place the houses... and, assuming you survive at all, food is basically on autopilot. A few fishing docks to build a buffer. Got the TH running before y10, market and church y15, and then just crawl forward from there.
Hope to see more Banished on the channel. Love your content and hard work. ❤
Really enjoyed binge watching this series - it's been great to watch whilst working from home ❤
Do you know the path tool? You can see where people from a house are working and if you check on a production building, you can see where the workers are living. It's very useful and the easiest way to check :) Also as some other people already pointed out, the fisherhuts on the tiny streams are not efficient. I'd close them or at least limit the number of workers in there to 1 and concentrate productive fishing on the big river and the lakes. For some crops being more efficient than others, I think that depends on your towns climate settings. I once read or heard somewhere that the ideal most productive field size per worker is 6x7 which produces around 300 units per year max if I remember correctly. I don't remember in what climate setting I played that in and it probably also wasn't vanilla as I like to play with the mega mod. I hope you come back to this series and if not start a new one with colonial charter or a mega mod :D
If you turn off 'Show weather effects' in options- it will make things more clear to see in the video and gameplay. You'll still know what's going on by the status icon.
if I may... I've been thinking about what you should do. like ALL stone houses, 99% education, efficiency on the fishing docks, store things on the trader rather than keep all the limits higher and higher. Nice and slow, forward... like it 👍 m8.
I’ve tried this game so many times I was playing actually this weekend and he makes it look so easy. I died so many times finally got the hang of it and I died. Starvation always gets me and then I run out of tools. It’s such a balancing game where one thing out of balance and everything just goes down in flames so it’s so nice to see someone that can actually keep the balance going and a really good job at it.😊
Thanks for these videos. I have now brought the game and wasted so many hours already and get so stressed over this damn game 😂
Not got this game but really enjoying watching this series
my humble opinions. Get everyone educated - increases the production capacity. get rid of the fishing docks on the river - there's barely food there due to the relevant amount of water present. This capacity can be used to increase the number of farmers in the existing farm fields. stop increasing the number of farms - increase the number of farmers on the existing farms. (as above) stone houses - reduces amount of firewood needed.
Just binged this entire series in one day. Guess I owe a sub.
I'd never heard about this game and recently came across it on another KZreadr's channel, but it was very frustrating because he was playing it horribly LOL. So I went looking for more content and found you, and I'm having so much fun watching your videos! In fact, I binged this playlist today and now I'm sad because I've reached the latest release. :( However, I'm looking forward to more content and to witness Thatcham's progress! Keep up the good work!!
Watching this series got me back into Banished!
32:22 you should play prison architectI would love to see that

There have been many videos of Dylan's prison officers running amock...err, enforcing order in Prison Architect. I'm sure there are a few playlists up on the channel for the various releases/DLCs.
You can order items with the merchant, also with the population expansion you might need another graveyard.
Should have more taverns on the go happier population :)
The Squash are the best crop for lasting past a frost. They can last later into the year pretty well.
That first ‘snow’ is frost 🤷♀️
So many stockpiles... so little stock.
I love this game!
"So I'll tell you what we're gonna do.." needs to be on a shirt.
There is an option that you can click and it shows the path that the cims take to/from houses or buildings. Don't forget to check each buildings production to see what you can tweak.
Banished baby, let’s go
if you have to over pay look if the mergent sells some thing of that price so you get all the worth out your products
I noticed the coal mine you checked near the start of the video has a limit showing for both Coal and Iron. Does this mean you can run it dry on one resource and then switch over to the other? I only question this as the one that ran out of the set resource earlier in the series was subsequently demolished and i don't know if that had the other resource available.
@ichigo4chan

The limit shown on that window shows the maximum of that item you want to have on hand/stored. Unrelated to that yes, mines run out once the bar goes all the way to 0%.

Ohh, my mistaken then. So no matter which resource your currently mining it's still taking from the same overall limitation from the location.
Playing banished again because of this series 😂
Houses, with elderly, people don't make more kids, you should check the older house and try to upgrade/destroy and rebuild houses first before massive expansion. You have plenty of boarding house capacity to absorb the dehoused elderly
You need more graveyards, and maybe another chapel as well.
Thank you so much for your videos, I love seeing banished in 2023. I have been trying to find the visual overhaul mods you are using and I can't find it anywhere. Could you please share with me the full name or a link to this mod, I would really appreciate it?
Are you making more videos. I return here constantly to hopefully see more content
Really should be transitioning to trading firewood for mined resources. Way more efficient. Just takes 3/4 traders and you'll have a constant supply.
You know, if you want chickens you can use the purchase option in the trade depot
Please build more cemeteries. Your poor citizens haven't been able to bury their loved ones in many DECADES!! 😭💀I would also decrease the amount of fishermen by 1 per dock in the small creek areas, since those probably won't produce a lot of fish to begin that. That will give you more laborers by 21-24, I think? And it'd be great to build fishing docks throughout the rest of the Great River and around that lake down south. Also maybe build another fishing dock on that lake peninsula that you already have in the west. There's a nice spot where they can fish. Or you can use it for another mine. Whichever works.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it already but can you still make orders with the trader?? Maybe an order for chickens would be a good idea? **never mind 🤣
I tried playing on the same seed as you; managed to reach 900 population and then a tornado hit and I dropped at 450.... kinda bummed to keep going
I always buy Stone and Iron from the Trader because I don't like having the empty mines around
How do you feel that Southern part turned out? I don't think you told us once in the whole video. 😏
I Will like yo view more episodes from this series.
Was enjoyed this Dylan. Can you please come back to it???
If you are seeing this message, please continue the series, I want to know how it ends.
Ditch all your miners and stone cutters, build more wood choppers and trade firewood for steel tools and stone. Mines and Quarries are terrible waste of workers.
Lovely
29:30 also this is the pain of uneducated peeps trying to do work
Hi (:
looks like some of your workers are severely unhappy. probably from the group of nomads you took in. That might explain the lack of production
Just got caught up on the series
Your Chappels are full, so build new ones
I don't understand why you didn't transition more of your blacksmiths to steel tools.
🎉
i do not watch gameplays for anything ever. and yet i cannot seem to stop watching these banished videos 😅 i’ve even tried watching other ppls gameplays but i just don’t like the way they play it
when we getting the next episode
Please stop using fishing docks and start using hunters and gatherers!! They are much more efficient
Can you play Let's School?
:)
So... next episode?
Can't you swap resources over on your mines .
Use more chicken 🐔 they're more efficient than fiah
early i guess ;)
What happened to this series?
Hey, do not drop this series ;D
Regularly banished players and watchers are yelling at their screens 😂😂😂 418 People in food production produced 91700 food That is SO terrible, 220 food pr person is devastating
your OCD bulding decisions kinda annoy me :D
What happened to this series ???????
