I had to return a hose twice in less than 2 weeks of use and then took a refund.....

My neighbor bought one for the apartment complex. I used it and was blown away at how awesome it was. I seriously have never been more impressed by such a simple innovation!

My hose mugged me.

I had one of these that lasted about a year and a half before failing. Stored it in a covered bucket. Great for a one year use or less generally.

Consumer Reports needs to update. They don't last long at all before popping

Joanne Freda, Consumer Reports needs to go out of business. Take a look at one of their magazines. They're just not the organization you may remember. They're not worth a damn anymore. One of the last icons to go down. Will National Geographic be next?

I have three pocket hoses around the outside of the house. I recommend getting the shortest size that fits your needs for three reasons. First, it’s cheaper. Two, it’s takes a long time, about 4-5 minutes to shrink and drain the water from a 100 ft hose but only 30 seconds for the 25 ft hose. Finally, dragging a long hose over rocky terrain will cause leaks. I’ve also learned how to repair the leaks using an inexpensive kit mentioned on KZread.

What’s the brand name of the repair kit for the hose?

I had one of my pocket hoses do the same thing. I bought 3 and the other two have been working fine so far.

Never buy "As seen on Tv" products...never

Pulled the end off mine with a moderate pull. The Hose That Blows!

I bought 3 of the pocket hoses. One of them blow loose from the connecter inside and was finished, but the other two have been working fine.All in all, I'm happy with them.

The hose I had exploded the first time it was used. It seemed like such a good idea.

Btw, I now have zero confidence in any future Consumer Reports review. This is downright disgraceful.

B Leach, You're right to have that attitude. How the mighty have fallen. Just take a look at the state of their magazines today.

The sarcasm was worth the watch, but it is nice to see an As Seen on TV product that works well.

Because of the light weight, I used it indoors, thumbs up (yay). Then the hose busted and cause a thousand dollars worth of damage. I got a finger up, but it ain't the thumb (boo)

I purchased two hoses, one for the front lawn and one for the back lawn. They were great for the summer, but now, both have developed holes. I will try to repair them because they are light and much easier to handle...too bad, $20 down the drain.

THEY POP, test it for strength- this lousy piece of hsit was good for a week then it explodes!

Same here, mine popped apart where the hose fabric joins the black plastic, leaving water gushing out at the spicket site. I had one of the first hoses to hit the market (the light chartreuse color) so I'm hoping the recent upgrades have resolved this issue.

Mine popped after about 10 uses so I got another one, SAME THING! It ripped! THey are sold out everywhere because you have to constantly buy new ones. GREAT invention crappy durability!

This is a perfect example of a great idea and poor execution. I own a home on acreage and several rentals and I LOVED my flexable hoses when I got them. Dream come true. Until they started popping one after another. Once even in the middle of my living room when I was watering the inside planters. I have bought all three brands and all had same issues. Even the black one with metal fittings, the DAP Commercial flex hose. At least with the black hose it comes with a warrantee that will replace hose up to three times. I am currently on round three of replaced hoses. So when these go I don't know what I will do. I don't want to go back to huge , heavy kinking hoses. WHY CAN'T SOMEONE GET THIS RIGHT!?!?!?!?!?

It's been 8 years .. I need an update Alex .

Without mentioning or linking to other types of hose tests or a durability test and with the annoying production choices this video just reinforces my avoid Consumer Reports perspective.

I bought a Pocket Hose and with a minor issue, I really like it. It's lightweight, easy to store, and delivers a good stream of water. The only negative is that the flow regulator leaks like crazy. I just unscrewed it and problem solved. Worth $20? No. Worth $10? Sure, even if it only lasts one season.

They're Crap! All the above was true but only for like a week; yup! That was about the lifetime of my "Pocket Hose," before it disintegrated! And before you ask... No, I did not leave out, in the sun nor by the pool. In fact, I only used it a couple of times, for my potted plants, in the front of my house, then I stored it in the garage.

I've tried four of these hoses, and each one has sprung a leak (s). The latest one lasted exactly two months.

Custom Art by Brenda, Exactly my experience, except that I've tried five DIFFERENT collapsible hoses, and all of then were junk.

Mine popped to CHECK THE DURABILITY NEXT TIME!!

The first lasted for 3-4 years. I bought another and it popped in 1 month.

the sides of the hoses either tear easy or dry rot quickly. I've bought every major brand and they all either pop off at the connector or the cloth backing rips and you get a giant water balloon in the center right before it pops. also there is a very noticeable drop in water pressure when using it at anything stronger than a mist. The hose just starts to shrink and cant support a constant pressure.

I am going to give it a try. My hose is well made and I have had it for years but it is a pain to pull out and put back.

I have the Pocket Hose and it actually works. I got a 50 foot hose at Walgreens for about $20.

Not for long

The Pocket Hose was light weight and did not kink, but it only lasts one season before it bursts. I have bought 3 and and don't plan on buying another. For the cost of 3 hoses, I could have bought a really nice one that I would still own today.

Mine burst after eight uses, first the protective covering tore, then the inside tubing expanded like a balloon in about ten seconds the hose burst immediately. It all occurred at about 40 psi. Don't buy a pocket hose. I was informed by Walmart customer service, more of the pocket hoses are returned than any other expandable hose.

bought a hose and it was cool a week later it burst at the nozzle end .so I bought another one and returned the old to get my money back its still the coolest hose I ever used its worth it

Yep. Bought ours from B&Q and after around 5 uses it`s popped! Anyone know if they can be repaired?

I bought the Pocket hose at a CVS for the boat. It looks very cheap (well, its also cheap), but it gets the job done.

We're supposed to store the Pocket Hose indoors whenever they're not in use. Why? Does weather damage them? Do changes in temperature damage the hose?

Agree to all...I tried Pocket hose, Flexihose, and the other black one (can't remember the name) and ALL are crap! Yeh, great when you first use them but then one day, for no reason, POP! Don't know why I kept trying them but was hoping one would work 'cause the idea is great but fellas go back to the drawing board!!!!!

How could you test and rate this item without mentioning the myriad of complaints about it bursting after very few uses?! I am SOOO disappointed in this CR report on this product. Almost runs like an infomercial for the infomercial. CR, you dropped the ball !!

I bought two of them. The first one lasted about 6-9 months the second one popped in about 1-3 months.

Consumer reports needs to begin doing their homework a little better with products. I looked up on-line reviews and majority were poor for this product. Either you update the video or take it down. It's VERY misleading. it's not the first time I see misleading product/service reviews. I'm not saying, be perfect, but just do your homework, thoroughly and update us. Makes me think twice about continued subscription.

I live in an apartment and hook it up to my kitchen faucet.. I then water my patio plants. Pocket hose lasted two years. Keep out of the elements and don't step on it. Use medium pressure.

My Pocket Hose from Walmart blew a hole the first time I used it. CR I think you should pull this video considering how many people find these are initially defective, or are fragile and fail quickly. I looked at amazon.com customer reviews: 254 one-star out of 447 Pocket Hose 31 one-star out of 100 Xhose Expandable Garden Hose, 75 FT 64 one-star out of 132 Xhose 25ft As Seen On TV Expandable Water Hose Most of the one-stars were initially defective or failed quickly (like mine).

Same things happened to me. I got soaked! Don't know what happened. Any thoughts?

If Consumer Reports really valued Consumers, they would get after the manufacturers for false advertising. I examined a couple of different "3/4 inch" or "5/8 inch" hoses, and the fittings were maybe half that size. The hose size is determined by the smallest inside diameter in the hose and fittings, not the largest! CU, do your job!

I guess Consumer Reports is on the take now. She left out the part about how they will all explode and end up in the trash can in about the first 5 minutes of use.

My x hose lasted 3 full summers before it went, It took a lot of abuse. I left it outside in very cold winters Get it on sale at the end of the season

The directions state, shut and drain when you finish using. It also says do not store in the sun. and protect from extreme cold. I followed those directions and use the hose daily.. Now 2 years old

Hi I have just purchase a pocket hose of the internet, it came with a warning to not use it for drinking water. Not an issue for me but I have a vegetable garden. Is this an issue? Mine is called the Magic Hose made in China.

Bought a cheap one on ebay £12.95 had it 3 weeks ..on the 4th time of use it burst right through the seam of the outer part of hose.Shame really seemed so good at first.

If the hose freezes they crack leek. If you own a broken pocket hose however,. cut it open and keep the rubber tube, they make great bungee cords.

Great idea....but BAAAAD quality.It does not kink,but explodes!!There was a pile of returns in the Verimark shop, but I had to wait 3 weeks for TESTING ,the next one did the same .Spend some extra (not that much really )and buy a branded product

This is one thing that I see more good than bad from them.

you know what, the convenience of storing it away in 20 seconds after use, not having to watch every twist that cuts water pressure, struggling with the nozzle if you need to change it because it gets stuck over time ( these hoses have an on/off lever at the end so you dont even need a nozzle), well, let me tell you, it can very well damn shrink a little, im never using anything else :)

my pocket hose developed a leak in the middle after about one month of use. is there any way to splice and repair it??

There us another hose that is a clear hose. It doesn't shrink but goes flat like a firehose when there is no water pressure and seems durable.

I already have hose old fasion hose which I've never had kink. Maybe I'll try one when they go bad

Get a premium one ...the best in class garden hoses cost more, but are your best bet of getting a strong and reliable one!

Bought 2 pocket hoses .. They both leak at either the nozzle end or the hookup to water souce end... I tried new washers & such & they still leak ... Back to my "never kink" brand hose that does kink, but never leaks

I decided to spray paint my hose because the green color reminds me of a reptile I dare not mention, anyway I noticed holes popping up everywhere and thought it was the paint. After reading these comments, I now know it wasn't the result of the spray paint.

Well - this woman from consumer reports hit a new low. She has no clue what she is talking about. She obviously didn't test the hose for a week.

Now what's the long term reliability?

HEY! I was hoping you guys would tell me which hose would not BURST. I had one burst when my mom was watering with it & it blew up. What about that? Are you saying that NEVER happened in your testing? Then you must NOT be testing it right.

I bought last June used it about three times to wash my car put it away for the winter took it out today and it is leaking where to connect it to the faucet. I bought it at Lowe’s but I can’t get a refund I was looking for a phone # to call the manufacturer Hope to get a response

people are saying they are great til 3 months go by then they are a nightmare..pour out water at the faucet..leaking.

Interesting review but CR should warn prospective buyers to beware of the scams perpetrated by the phone-order-credit-card by not honouring returns for defective products. Buying from WalMart and/or other known outlets will honour refunds or exchanges...a common situation due to the poor quality of these hoses bursting after a few tries. Hopefully this great idea will mature into quality products.

I know I am seven years late. The inside bladder went in the hose with less than 2 summers' use. Good thing I kept my old kinked up hose as back-up. Though the old hose kinks a lot it still lasts longer and is only about half the price. Both hoses are made in China and both are very Chinesesque. I will never ever find a half decent garden hose.

mine lasted 2 hrs then the inner hose split. mine was from ebay 250ft £22. ive sent it back and will buy normal hose.

I came within a hair of inventing (or rediscovering) these when I was playing with pneumatic actuators built from silicone tubing inside a woven sheath. Of course, I was working on artificial muscles, so garden hose wasn't in mind.

The problem is with th inner tube, it should be thicker and tougher material. Also try not to pull on the hose until it is fully inflated and becomesregid. Othe is it is a good hose.

I have a hose lock not cheap but had it 3 years still good the cheaper ones are copies buy a good one and you will only pay once my 100ft was £39.99

My hose broke from the switch where it opens the water from the screw fell out

used it twice, holes everywhere, wasn't worth it.

My experience with these types of hoses is they do not last. Great when they work but be ready for when they burst

CR - you need to update this video. These hoses break very easily - the plastic liner inside the outer fabric cover split very easily. Please revise this review, do your job as a consumer advocacy organization, and maintain your credibility.

They also burst easy. I had one and it burst. My mother had one and it burst in like two weeks. I also have a neighbor and his burst. Hope the newer versions are better.

I have bought 4 and they all popped after a few times I have used them a waste of 39 dollars every time

MINE LASTED 1 MONTH ,OLD HOSE LAST 20 YEARS ,KINDA IMPORTANT.

I've been back to the hardware store 3 times because the hoses don't last more than a few uses. They leak where they meet the noozle.

The problem is the quality of the hose. I bought one and it lasted less than 3 months. After that it started leaking and then just broke. The rubber material was all like melted in the part where the leaking started.

We have bought 5 of these 3 have burst because the outer fabric doesnt stand up to being dragged across tiles!

I bought one of these and it lasted 15mins!, I was told it must be a one off incident, they replaced it with no issue and I took it home, I started to use it and it was fab , It lasted 2 weeks and the same thing happened it burst! never again.....they are crap.

Yes, they work until they leak, which in my case only took three uses. Then all the water leaked from the faucet end, so that nothing came out of the business end. Too bad, cause I really liked it.

I just purchased the pocket hose 2 weeks ago. Don't waste your money on that one cause the material already sprung a leak.

After 3 uses, ours burst. It was fun while it lasted....

I'm surprised you didn't report on durability, these usually become useless after a few uses!

That's probably why they didn't comment on it.

I bought 3 of them. All 3 failed within 2 weeks. The crimp at the faucet end caused the surgical tubing in the inside to cut and spring a leak. I repaired all 3 with a hose clamp. 2 weeks later each failed the same way at the spray head end. I repaired them with a hose clamp. Now a week later one has failed by bursting right in the middle. These hoses are a total rip off. I cannot find out how to make use of the "10 year guarantee" either. Nothing I could see on pockethose web site.

I loved the Pocket Hose for the 2 weeks that it worked (it's very light), but then it sprang 2 leaks and became useless :-(
