Expandable garden hose: hundreds of complaints
Everyone's seen ads for those shrinking garden hoses, that shrivel up into a little ball when you're not using them. And millions of people are buying them. But have you checked some of the reviews posted online?

A commercial grade rubber hose will last 25 years of regular use. Bulky and heavy..yes, but will deliver the volume of water for any need. My experience with the expanding and the spiral metal hoses is that you're lucky if you get 1 year of regular use from them, and the inner diameter is too small for many situations.

I have rubber hoses that are almost 20 years old and work fine. Once done watering, make sure you relieve the pressure inside the hose. Otherwise, a hot hose sitting in the sun will expand and split, or crack.

You guys got this as a recommendation too after 10 years? 😂
The problem with these hozes is that when the nozzle is closed and you open the tap, the hoze expands perfectly and looks like you'll be getting good water pressure. However, as soon as you open the nozzle the hoze's shape collapses and retracts considerably. So not only do you lose the working length of hoze, you lose perhaps over half the potential water pressure. They're clearly not adequate for their intended purpose.
@brucecook502

That isn't the problem that all of us is happening because I know exactly what you are talking about. I still got great water pressure from my hose All Summer Long, even with the pressure being a tiny bit inconsistent because of this that you mentioned, all of a sudden now there's barely any pressure going through it at all where before I was getting just as much pressure from this thing as the old normal rubber and plastic hose I was using before.

New one every year. I dont know if im nuts for buying them, or my wife is nuts for keeping wanting more.
My mom bought one a few years back, and the fabric that covers it tore after being on the concrete in our backyard. Underneath it was a flimsy clear plastic tube so yes, it's a waste of money.
I've used the same one at work for years and never had a problem
A customer of mine had one, and sods law, it broke within a day of me using it. Bought one myself recently, granted it was cheap, but the water pressure meant it just popped off of the quick connect tap connector. I am tempted to buy a more expensive one, but dubious about them. Since then I have paid for better quality ones, and they are great, you just have to be extra careful with them and make sure you do not stand on them too much.
My grandparents had two of these! 😂 Wonderful trip down memory lane. Not sure why this vid popped up but enjoyed the personal flashback!

Have used flex hoses for 10 years, outstanding result, best thing since sliced bread. This old man needs comman scene.
Wrong... They are ALL like that.. The only difference is time. If really lucky might get a year out of one of them - Brand doesn't matter. They are all made basically the same way. The death of them comes from abrasion of the outer sheath (rubbing over concrete for example) and/or if your static water pressure above 60 psi is an unfortunate aneurysm and the demise of your $40 on this junk.
I've gotten one of these and you have to be very gentle with them You can't just be pulling on them and things like that You also need to use cold water no hot water running through them and you're not supposed to leave them outside in the sun anybody who's having problems with them probably did not avoid any of these and did not do with the instructions told them to I've had a few of these over the years They work perfectly fine if you know how to use them properly and how to put them away and everything
Get a zero G hose. It doesnt automatically retract but it is very light and durable. Never had a problem from the one I bought. Runs sprinklers and works with pressure washers perfectly fine.

My father went through the same thing. So I went on amazon to find a replacement, and I asked him what the rating was, since there are a million of these. He said "huh? I just bought one on sale, no idea"...so I found one with thousands of ratings, 4.5/5. And it's been working great for a year

Thrown 2 away, the third one burst 1/2 pex fittings with a hose clamp will get you going again. The part that holds the water looks like surgical hose and the cloth material is supposed to keep it from puncturing, the problem is the cloth will wear quick. Also southern heat 100f+ days probably don't help. Someone mentioned zeroG (I think I bought one at walmart), that hose has outlasted 2 of the green as seen on tv magic hoses.
I had two of these burst a few years ago. The wrappinng of those latex hoses were thin. I'm now considering coil hoses instead.

Where were these hoses made?
These hoses have gotten better, but a hose will last longer if you store it neatly and properly. Just leaving it bundled up on the ground will damage it more quickly. Get a garden hose rack and store it off the ground.
They do work with every sprinkler I have tried. I have used them for many years, they don't last forever but at least a season or 2. Only 20 bucks and very convenient. Use and store it properly old man

my sister bought a blck one but sorry to tell it works and we had it already for almost 3 months and still works well, secret is i don't close the sprayer head itself whenever i open same as if i turn off the main faucet off i let the water out. probably the one she bought was better than this they bought

I’ve got one that has lasted for over a year now but I hate it. It’s the most infuriating thing to use when you want to fill a pool. The moment you release the water, the hose shrinks. It barely reaches past half the length of my garden. I’m constantly having to fight with it just to get it to the end of the garden. Good concept, terrible in practice.

@1:01 - Little blulululuoop 😆😆😆
While I would never expect these hoses to work with a sprinkler, they are perfect for inside my small greenhouse and on my decks. Even so, I wouldn’t consider them for more than light/medium duty and have never had one last more than two years before having an ‘hernia’
I have 3 of them. They are fantastic.
They have a 1/4” interior water supply. They are designed to water small amounts and not yards, car washings or something that requires lots of water.
So all of them are broken thanks for the warning ⚠️ buddy 👍.
It was just a little prlrlrlrlrlrlr 😂😂😂😂
These types of hoses have been offered for sale in the UK for quite a while, and we're a nation of *very* keen gardeners. I have only seen about one or two of them in gardens around here, which suggests to me the overall design probably doesn't meet the standard expected by British consumers. To be honest: These are a thin rubber hose inside a nylon sleeve, and the main function of the sleeve is to limit the maximum diameter (Flow rate) of the rubber hose inside. After a number of uses the seam in the rubber hose will split through natural fatigue, which looks to be what happened in Daves case. If the main intent is for watering lawns, he might want to consider putting in a semi permanent hose system that would allow him/his wife to plug sprinklers in when they want to use them without more than a few feet of connector hose to deal with. 👍
that company got y'all lol 🤣🤣🤣
I bought one of these from Home Depot a couple of years ago. It seemed 'convenient' compared to a regular hose. However, after a few uses, the plastic pieces attached to the faucet basically blew apart. Took it back, returned it and the other one also broke. They were on Clearance already for a reason, obviously. Companies who product garbage like this should be fined to the point of going out of business so that they can't make any more trash products.
I bought one for a family member it lasted about 5weeks it was bought from asda the very friendly and helpful staff said they are rubbish and had loads of returns and complaints so they sold them all reduced to about £7 from around £20 because they where crap lol😂
I have had one for 4 years, the key to having one is, "Don't leave it out in the weather."
I saw a dude who has a “hose” that starts soft but then grows three times its length.
If it ain't a " Copper Fit" ,...it ain't legit...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Convenient but I’ve been thru quite a few, different brands but they all burst nonetheless within a few weeks to months. Only was able to get a replacement once or twice.
Even if the expandable hose doesn't break, isn't it inconvenient having to let it expand every time you want to use it and retract it every time you put it away? That would be a huge waste of time if you simply want to fill a water jug or spray plants close to where the hose begins. A standard hose on a reel caddy sounds so much easier... just pull out the length of hose that you need, turn the water on and you're set!
But wait if you order within the next 5 minute we give 2 for the price of one😂
I just went on KZread to find out how to fix my problem with my expanding hose because it is barely allowing any water pressure to run through it now and I found this video. I will say, the thing has worked perfect for the last several months and has been a godsend for my gardening this summer, but just this past week out of the blue I am getting a fraction of the water pressure going through it, and even just this morning it got worse and I have no clue why. I have made sure nothing could get inside of it to obstruct it, and the on and off valve that is visible through the brass end looks just fine so I don't get what is going on with this thing. This figures, I spent $45 at Walmart for this 100 ft hose. Heck, it even takes almost five whole minutes just to fill our dogs big water bowl now.
