THE HISTORY OF CORINTH. The canal is 6.4 km long and only 25 meters wide
The Canal crosses the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf. And so, the Peloponnese was cut off from the mainland and literally turned into an island! The canal, although completed in the late 19th century, has been a dream for more than 2,000 years. Previously, ships from the Aegean that wanted to sail to the Adriatic had to make the rounds of the Peloponnese. It was solemnly inaugurated by George I, but it soon became clear that the passage for modern ships was still narrow. However, the life experience of free fall from the bridge of the canal is ideal for cruises with pleasure boats that start from Piraeus or for the more adventurous. Bungee jumping to another level!
