Thanks for featuring an MCI I purchased a 2007 MCI e4500 passenger bus in February and am in the middle of converting it. The size was intimidating at first, but when I first drove it I was more than impressed with the ease that it drove down the road. 1,000 miles later and I'm still in awe. I've never driven a prevost, but I've driven plenty of class A and C motorhomes and none have driven as nice as a monocoque chassis bus does.

I owned a 1967 MCI Custom Coach that was originally made for Budweiser! I took my family all over the country in that coach never had a breakdown! Kerwin Elmer was the owner of Custom Coach I believe he passed away this year.

D models are hands down one of the best riding coaches on the road. You’re right about that

MCI makes beautiful coaches. When I drove at Greyhound, I remember when we had competitions to drive the Madden coach bus, for John Madden. Being newly married, they wanted someone that could be out for long periods of time. DANG IT !! Greyhound also had buses for The Harlem Globetrotters, and the Shriner's. Every other row of seats was removed so that the Basketball players,could stretch out their legs. Even got to see a fully restored Silversides. Which was maintained by the Mechanic at the Chicago maintenance garage.

This coach should be in an In'n'Out burger museum!

In all seriousness, I hope this bus goes to someone who will keep it as-is. It's made for a particular sort of endeavor, that doesn't mean one can't upgrade or add a shower and/or washer-dryer, but I hope the impressive over-built build-out, is largely kept intact. It's a neat coach. One of a kind.

I have news for you, the In and Out Executive bus looks a hell of a lot like a California DOJ criminal transport bus. I have a family friend that owns a newer Marathon bus...three words: BOTTOMLESS MONEY PIT. The cheapest part of buying any luxury bus is the purchase price, everything else is outrageously expensive ($1100 oil and filter changes, $500 tires X8) and without slide out's its very narrow compared to a 5th wheel with multiple slide outs. A bus makes a great trophy, but there not very good for private ownership if money has any value to you and you must do your homework before thinking your just going to treat it like an RV and go into just any RV park.

Yes , if you can afford a mollion dollar coach you can afford five hundred dollars a tire and a thousand dollar service my Cadillac is a hundred dollar oil change what about a million dollar coach .People that purchas Million dollar coaches don't think about the maintenance cost .

This seems really high there is a 2008 Prevost on RVT that was a library has a kitchen,b room it's like mid 30s like 100k on it.

I like this ol guy he has a really nice coach to sell. Hope he does well with it.

Sure, the running gear will make it a million miles, providing you have the maintenance budget of a corporation to afford it. I suggest anyone thinking that this is a great deal that they talk to someone who has purchased a used Prevost or other luxury bus and ask them about the reality of ownership costs. I have a family friend that owns one, and its a nightmare in maintenance costs that make even an airline pilot's (Captain) bankroll cringe. These make great trophy's, but poor RV's especially without multiple slide out's that make a huge difference in living space.

Jeff Faller I guess since I do my own work it’s not too bad. I have a 25 ton Diesel pusher (2003 Wanderlodge Lx) that’s no spring chicken. They were the major competitor of Prevost. If I was in the market, I take the $45,000 one with the burnt wire harness. Military taught me how to handle them. You can own these without a corporation behind you. You will need a decent place to work on it (barn) and the money for tools and parts. Last year my alternator went on my coach. Thing weighs close to 100lbs. Got it out (engine crane), put in new bearings and brushes. Got lucky. Rebuilt one would have cost over a grand. One thing about these old coaches is they will outlast us. I have a saving account that would pay for an engine or transmission if I had to do it on the road. I can rebuild both if I could get it home. I have multiple road service plans that will tow 1000 miles and between them they are not $300 a year. I’ve had it out over the last few summers. When I got it I had to sink 15K into it but half of that was tires. I , myself replaced the air bags and spring brake chambers when I got it or it would have been more like 25k. Taken care of they will go that million miles and then some. IMHO.

Unfortunitly, I think people see the size and price and automatically think good value not having a clue what it takes to keep one on the road. The alternator is a great example.

Jeff Faller I stayed home this summer for obvious reasons (at least to me). This winter it’s the water pump, but that’s easy compared to the alternator. I am planning (and have the hardware already) to upgrade the power takeoff and the hydraulic pump that’s bolted to the transmission. They run the cooling fan and the power steering. I did the radiator last year too. That was a 2 month project. They can cost many thousand, but a bus radiator is modular. The tanks (top and bottoms) are bolt on and reproductions are around that don’t cost too much. The core is all copper. I rodded that too. Being heavy copper Brazing in a few tubes was not hard. Once again the engine crane saved the day. I grew up around heavy equipment so that’s how I learned to wrench. My youngest does all her own work too (F500 lol). I have the owners group to give me all the technical information I need and I have the time since I’m retired. Thanks for the kind words. I am fortunate to have had 2 careers. Not rich, but I have enough to do this.

Political junkie here. This would definitely be a great charter bus for state-level campaigns that require the candidate to cover long distances and multiple appearances in a day. I would probably have the conference room converted to a dressing room for the candidate, with space for a TV reporter to do a private interview with a candidate while traveling. Press could use the private spaces to file reports. Electronics would have to be updated for modern standard, and the In-and-Out logo stuff removed, but otherwise it's a blank canvas for a campaign to wrap as they need to. Sure beats the hell our of using an old Class C for a campaign vehicle.

If it's got the push-button in-n-out start I'll buy it. Keys are so McDonalds.

I started thinking about this In N Out Bus and why at the time in 1994 they would have it. It jarred my memory as I am old enough to remember this during my high school years. Now this is a speculation. But in 1993 the President of In N Out Synder one of the late Brothers that ran In N Out died in a Tragic Private Plane Crash. He violated one of his own rules of flying with other executives that all died in that crash. After that it most likely profoundly had an effect on the entire organization and surviving owner at the time. I suspect that is when they decide to travel solely by Bus for all the corp meeting and travel. Just my though. Makes perfect sense though as most of the locations in 1994 were all in California only so they didn't have to travel far scouting areas. Little History on In N Out that is worth looking up on a google search.

Yes, the plane crash happened in 1993 killing Rich Snyder, then-President, and it's EVP who were on a day trip to various locations in So. CA. Esther Snyder, Rich's mother (she and her husband founded In-N-Out) and a 3rd executive had been on the day trip with them but Esther and the 3rd executive deplaned at one of the stops because Esther wasn't feeling well and was taken home. You are correct; the standing policy was for the top executives of the company to not fly together; I don't think it was ever revealed why the 3 top executives (and Rich's mother, a founder) broke protocol as there was nothing extraordinary about the day trip. They went to the opening of a new location and were then scouting different areas for new locations.

DerekAdamsCT My late mom was a EVP for a major NE utility company. They had hard rules on this too. I remember the President flying one trip and my mom drove. Next trip they traded. Then they fly, but in different airlines.

@@christopherrasmussen8718 - I was part of the EXCO (executive committee) for a major U.S. bank. *Very* strict rules about flying together (both commercially and on the private jets). We switched between flying and driving as well depending on the distance. I then worked 10 years for a privately-owned mid-size consulting company with 10 offices around the country and travel-centric. Only the owner would travel separately; otherwise, the Partners, exec's, managers would travel in huge groups on a single flight. Thankfully there were (nor have been) any incidents but I always thought it was too much of a risk.

Here is the cause of the crash: "after opening store 93 In-N-Out in Fresno, California, on December 15, 1993, Rich Snyder and four other passengers died in a plane crash on approach to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California. This would make a great 2-4 hour commuter bus business where you can ride and get work done. Or park it near a major city or College and cater to people in business who want to rent a small office space or conference room by the hour.

MCI build great coaches. I drove for Greyhound and that is all we had in the fleet. WORK HORSES , rode and drove great.

Desirable D series bus, super low miles, and you know it's been pampered and well maintained as it belonged to In n Out. All that for that low price?? Tempting as hell. Wow.

I keep telling my wife I should sell my Jeep and purchase a bus as my daily driver. 😂😂

The MCI MC9 and DL3 platforms will outlast just about everything out there. I'd pit a DL3 up against an XLII any day. I've driven and wrenched on both and I love em both. Add a 60 Series Detroit to any of these I've mentioned and you have a million mile coach easy.

Take out an office area add a shower. Arrange a bed in the conference room. Bad news Bus, wonder if they would give out free Double Doubles if i fit it thru the drive through!!

NIce Bus but the layout is a mobile office. A shower would have been nice also. It's already been built into something. Would be so wasteful to change the layout but if you have the skills and money, go for it.

JUST saw this video. The interesting thing is that in Dec 1993 Rich Snyder and Phil West, two top Executives of the In N Out Company died in a tragic plane crash approaching Orange County Airport. Wonder if this was the replacement to keep the team safe going forward.

No this coach was spec'd and built for Rich. The airplane accident happened before they took deliver. His brother Guy used it to tour to local stores before his death.

Best busses on the road. I have the 1977 Big Mac version for sale in N E Ohio. Custom Coach built great busses.

My 2nd comment - I LUSt for this BUS! It would be so easy to re-purpose the excellent hardware in it. Aircraft-grade build as though it's meant to fly at 40k feet. I can only imagine the meetings that took place to spec the coach, and then the meetings and work that took place in it AFTER it was built! So awesome and probably already spoken for as I type this. I could stroke the check this moment. The hard part would be to salvage my marriage after doing so! 😝

IN-N-OUT best burger ever, double double animal style baby, with some animal fries. You know what you wont find at an IN-N-OUT restaurant? a microwave and a freezer! Everything is fresh and never frozen, french fries made from an actual potato right in front of you. What a concept. Nice mci coach. Another great vid Andrew and as always stay safe and give Sadie some love for me.

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful! What model MCI is this? I was looking at an 88 MCI 102a3 with the fluted stainless steel and a 92 102c3 fiberglass. It makes me wonder if the 102c3's were offered with the fluted stainless, or if it's possible to change the front back and sides of them to stainless? I do like both types, though I kind of have a thing for the stainless steel. I realize it's probably more practical and cheaper to buy one already with or without stainless body than to change it. If anyone knows, I'd much appreciate it. Keep up the great job on the videos. Thanks PS, I'll be honest, I wasn't sure that the 2 Stroke Detroits we're available in 45' MCI's, until I saw this video. What MCI models and years offered a 45' with a 2 Stroke? Thanks in advance for your time and assistance, it's much appreciated.

It’s a fantastic bus, and you could use it as a write off buddy!! You only live once and you can’t take it with you. Life is getting shorter by the day buddy so think about it. Howdy, Thanks again for sharing. What model MCI is this? I was told that it was very rare to have a 45 foot coach with a 2 Stroke Detroit Diesel? No one I've asked on KZread seems to know. If any of y'all happen to know, please let me know. I'm currently looking for either a 40' or 45' MCI and I prefer working on the 2 strokes. Much appreciate any help.

I miss those country coach episodes in Ore-gone. Those are such awesome coaches. Aren't most of those bigger CCs monocoque constructed as well? Some of those CCs have the Detroit series, too, I believe.

Well i 1997 International skoolie need a remanufactured transmission but since its 23 years old nobody wants to work on it. Any ideas where i might go to?

Never liked old MCI buses because there frames were tubular and rusted from the inside. I drove a 1955 GM 4104 for more than 25 years.

From a supply chain standpoint, that makes sense. Why else would they put one there since the population center for Oregon is 300 miles north of there?. The one they built last December in Keizer (suburb of Salem) has had a 2+ hour line in the drive through every single day since 12/12/2019. Having spent 4 years in SoCal recently, i'm excited there coming into the PDX area since there's a local grossly overpriced burger chain that need to be closed in favor of a company that serves burgers hot, fast and without a $12 combo price tag.

Throw a shower in it and I believe it would take me across this country for a year or so with ease!

How reliable are the turbodiesel MCI's?
