Yankee Jim is the one I know of through local lore being a native of San Diego. I thought it was interesting they had so many problems hanging him concerning his height, considering I stand at the very same height of 6 foot 4. I guess I would have also been considered exceptionally tall in those days. Jim was hung on the site that would later be where the Whaley House was built, which still has a reputation as one of the most haunted locations in the United States.

The worst torture device for me is the iron maiden Its like a box filled with spikes,they put the victim in the box then closes the doors then the victim inside gets impaled by spikes

i learn more from this channel than i do in school

Decapitation is imo 1 of the most humane executions ever. If done right the condemned won't feel a thing and it's easy to clean up.

Anne Boleyn was executed by a french man that used a sword, which was quick and painless. The execution that went wrong was Thomas Cromwell’s which is the one you mistake with in this video.

I remember when I was in highschool studying Australian history they told us about a convict transported here who was sentenced to be hanged, but each time they tried something went wrong. The trapdoor would stick, or the rope would break for no apparent reason. After the third time they decided that it must mean God wanted him to live, so they let him off the hook. I'm a little vague on the details, but I think he ultimately escaped and was never seen again.

If you’ve seen the movie The Green Mile (highly recommend btw) you already know the electric chair is definitely gonna be in this video. I don’t get how anyone could’ve ever thought that was humane at all.

Ketch did so bad at the executions that he had to do a 1500s version of a YT apology/defense video - publishing a pamphlet that no, he wasn’t drunk and the main problem was that the person being executed wouldn’t kneel in the best way.

Hahahaha, the bad executioner became the 2nd execution of the day, LoL. I almost became his 3rd victim because I was drinking water and this made me laugh and I almost choked or drowned or something.

In general it's considered merciful to sharpen the blade and strike off the head in one blow, if you wished to make them suffer you'd bring a dull blade and strike many times

louis XVI was indeed guillotined but I heard that it was not a "clean" execution to raise the blade and chop again. Royalty had to be done clean so instead of lifting the blade they just pushed it through. I only heard it and never looked into it.

Yes, everyone thinks that the most common method of execution in Europe was beheading. While it was sometimes used, you would be lucky if you get this punishment. Most of the times, people were way more inventive when it comes to executions. For example, în the Carpathian countryes, the weel was often used, while in modern day France or Germany, a simple hanging was their choise. In 13th, 14th, 15th,16th, and 17th century England, most people that were sentenced to death were hung, drawn and quartered. During the eighty years war, the spaniards oftenly drawned their dutch prisoniers.

Hanging, drawing and quartering was reserved for treason in England. Most people were executed by hanging, or other methods.

A town in England had a version that predated the guillotine by a few hundred years, the Halifax gibbet if your interested
