EXCLUSIVE: Earliest OLMEC stone PYRAMID discovered in Mexico?

In August 2023, news outlets around the world reported the discovery of what could be the earliest Olmec stone pyramid ever discovered in the Mexican state of Puebla. Our team was the first to go and film on site.
We found the ruins of a sprawling ancient city, with dozens of pyramid mounds, some over 15 meters high, and at least three large ballcourts. Yet the question remains: Is this really an Olmec stone pyramid, and just how old is the site?

From the size of that ball court one can easily imagine the importance of the site. Nice documentary.

Thank you! It is one of the largest unexcavated sites in this part of Mexico, very similar to Teteles de Santo Nombre, which has only been recently opened to the public.

Well worth doing a LIDAR study of the area. Is there anywhere we can see some of the artifacts or ceramics found on this site?

There is not much information on the ceramics and chronology of this site. Teteles de Santo Nombre is another important archaeological site with similar construction style and architecture located just 15 km away. There is a small site museum there containing ceramics and other artifacts found at the site.

There is no documentation or published material on this specific site. Teteles de Santo Nombre is another important archaeological site with similar construction style and architecture that has been far more excavated and is located less than 15 km from Atenayuca. There is a small site museum that contains ceramics and other artifacts found at the site.
