The Clinton-Brown face-off looks more traditional with podiums moderated by an actual journalist and a panel of other journalists while the Bush-McCain one looks more unusual on a talk show table moderated by a talk show host.

For better or for worse, they like to play with the format over the years to appeal to the tastes of the people of the time. Town hall-style, roundtable style, head-on-head, etc. In fact, the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858 were just one-hour uninterrupted speeches at each other, which was the style at the time.

Reagan the best? I giess if you are a catholic and democrat, there is a lot to like: Reagan passed Amnesty, turning California into a democrat state whichwas once Republican. Reagan sent arms to the Catholic Contras to prevent protestants from uprising because of corrupt catholic rule in Nicaragua. Reagan and Bush conspired to create a hostage crisis used to help Reagan get elected. Then once out of Office, Reagan lobbied hard for the Brady bill which was anti-gun legislation. Reagan basically told protestant republicans told go to hell. Not to mention Reagan removed laws put in place to prevent a Vatican embassy. These laws were put in place after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, since the Vatican was shown to help conspire to assassinate Lincoln.
