Perfect timing on this video! I've been dealing with trying to transition a dashboard with a speedometer chart from Excel to Power BI and was having a lot of trouble. I think I'm going to try the bar chart idea. However, I need to show a range of outcomes relative to the thresholds, not just a single value. Need to play with it and see if I can make it work.

Many thanks, that's ingenious. I thought of a way to get Excel to place the 0..100 text labels, too. Just add a third donut series to carry the labels (no fill and no line of course). It will need 13 sections of width 0, 5, 10, 10....10, 95 and labels, "0", "", "10", "20"... etc.

Thanks for your tutorial which is excellent as always. I want to show a number in a pivot table in this speedometer. How can make the connection between pie chart needle number and the pivot table number, by selecting the item from a slicer?
@MyOnlineTrainingHub

You can add a data label for the pie chart needle and link it to a cell in your workbook that's connected to the PivotTable value. If you get stuck, you're welcome to post your question and sample Excel file on our forum where someone can help you further: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-forum

My boss happens to love cars and he LOVES my speedometer charts (mine are smaller as I don't use the gray exterior dataset.) It doesn't matter how much real estate they take up--he looks far more intently at what I am presenting because the visuals appeal to him.

Production exceed over budget, so 100% is not the limit, but must be where you have 50%. What should i enter, if i want range of values not to be 0-100% but from 50-150% or 75 -125%?
Super useful gauge charts (avoid) and do a simple bar chart.

I haven’t seen copy paste into a chart like that, love it, Hey what if my range is not 100, I need a max range of 5 and my data is from .00, .01 etc up to max level of 5, So the needle could point to 2.57 for example, how would you do this?

HI Minda. I have a dashboard with a lot of charts. I would like to see every chart in "big" when I click on it. That it takes the full screen and I be able to return to my dashboard. Can you help.
@MyOnlineTrainingHub
Жыл бұрын
You'd need to create a separate sheet for the big version of each chart and then insert a hyperlink from the dashboard to each 'big' sheet, so when they click on the small charts in the dashboard it takes them to the sheet where the big version of the chart is.
Is there a way to make the needle go backwards when the number increases? I'm creating a speedometer for intake wait times for a treatment agency and I want the speedometer to go down into the red the longer an appointment takes to complete.
@MyOnlineTrainingHub
6 ай бұрын
I'd probably switch the colours so that red was the higher number, rather than change the direction of the needle.
Would it be possible to have a gauge (or speedometer) chart...using doughnuts similar to your speedometer...but that not only show the 0% - 100% range (horizontally, where the 0% is far left and the 100% is the far right of the gauge)...but to also extend the gauge to include negative values (that would extend the gauge to the left, going backwards...making a circle below the horizontal axis) as well as values that exceed 100% (and would go to the right, going forwards...making a circle below the horizontal axis) that currently stops at 100%?

Hi .. thanks for the video .. quick question please. The video shows how to make a single stack column chart with a line marker .. is it possible to make a multiple columns chart with their corresponding line please? Thanks
@MyOnlineTrainingHub
Жыл бұрын
Yes. Add more columns to your source data table and extend the series to include the new columns. Set the 'line' for the Actual series to 'no fill' and add a gap width to the columns so they have space between them. If you get stuck, post your question and sample Excel file on our forum where someone can help you further: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-forum

How do we publish the Power BI dashboards and share it with others in the organization ?
@MyOnlineTrainingHub
Жыл бұрын
You publish the reports to the Power BI service. You and each person wanting to see the dashboard needs a Power BI Pro licence. That's the short answer but it's a bit more complicated than I can answer in the comments here. If you'd like to get up to speed with Power BI, please consider my course: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/power-bi-course

😁 I'm hoping those who think they want a Speedometer chart, will realise they shouldn't, but you can't always convince people!

I had never thought of using a pie chart for the needle! On the rare occasions when I have used such a chart I have tended to go for a superimposed scatter chart with a single line segment from (0, 0) to (SIN(ϑ), COS(ϑ)). A nice thick red line and a faint shadow (maybe with a similarly formatted red disc at the centre) and all is ready to go! Just a moment of heresy. The purpose of such a large display of a single value, is to force the audience to focus on the value by excluding other information that might distract from the key point.
@MyOnlineTrainingHub

Thanks for sharing your technique. If you’re only displaying a gauge chart then ok, but most people put them in dashboards where they aren’t the sole focus.
